I meant to add that other channel crossings are of course available, so if you prefer a ferry then we can meet up either at lunch or Bruges.

Many thanks, Chris.
Hotel in Bruges now booked.
Couple of questions:
1. Is the plan to stay in the usual Premier Inn on the Thursday night?
2. Can we firm up on the return Eurotunnel crossing (two possible times were mentioned)?
Thanks a lot.

Hi,

Yes the Premier Inn Eureka Park at Ashford on the Thur night.

Let's go for the 18:20 Chunnel so we are not pushed for time if lunch is a leisurely as it was this year! The chances are if we are a bit early we could well get on the earlier train anyway

For info just in case:

Driving in the EU after Brexit
The Government has confirmed that if there is ‘no deal’ then mutual recognition of driving licences between the UK and EU may end.
This would mean that UK drivers wishing to drive in Europe after 29 March 2019 would need to get an International Driving Permit (IDP):
A 1949 Convention IDP (Republic of Ireland, Spain, Malta, Cyprus), or
A1968 Convention IDP (all other EU countries, Norway and Switzerland)
It's been estimated that up to 7 million IDPs may be required in the first year if there's 'no deal'.
Whether there's a deal or not, the Government has decided that, from 1 February 2019:
IDPs will be issued by around 2,500 Post Offices (they're currently issued by 89)
The AA (and RAC) will no longer be permitted to issue IDPs
Mail order facilities for applying for an IDP will cease to exist
Hopefully an agreement can be reached to prevent further red tape and expense for drivers.
(updated 13 September 2018)

I'm going to wait and see what happens on the 29th March but we may need to pop along to the Post office between then and the beginning of May.

I’m going to get one now just in case. It’s only GBP5.50. Am sure all the other benefits Mr Rees-Mogg promises we will otherwise get from a hard Brexit will more than compensate me.....

FYI
You can apply for an IDP up to 3 months before you're due to travel. Once you've received your IDP, it's valid for a year.

FR :

GB :
This is the weekend of my wife's birthday, but I think only come see you all in Annoeullin on Sunday morning between 10am and 12pm.

Eventually I propose you to come to a beautiful gathering of old English car that takes place every first Sunday of the month on the parking of the aerodrome of Bondues. This town is 20 minutes from the village of Le Mesnil and Annoeullin.
In this case you could go to Annoeullin earlier, come to Bondues, then go to the restaurant in the village of Le Mesnil

Some pictures of the Bondues gathering:

Hi Nestor,

The Aerodrome de Bondues meeting looks great and I'll put that in the plan for Sunday.

I think it best to visit Bondues first then go onto Annoeullin and then onto lunch.

Hi Chris,

UK : I think it's rather better to start in Annoeullin around 9:30, and go to Bondues to get there at 11am, it's the best time to see the most vehicles, at 10am, there are very few people, and from 11:45, all the exhibitors leave the meeting. As a result, leaving Bondues before noon seems like a good option. In all cases the distances are short between Annoeullin / Bondues and Le Mesnil.

Hi Nestor,

Given we are starting in Bruges I think the aerodrome before the crash site makes more sense. (just to confirm, is it the Aérodrome de Lille - Marcq-en-Barœul, Avenue du Général de Gaulle, 59910 Bondues?)

Looking in more detail at the timings, I suggest a slightly earlier departure from Bruges:

Sun 5th May

Depart Bruges at 9:30 for Bondues with arrival about 10:45.
Note, this is using the E403/A17. If we use a non-highway route it will be about 40 mins longer so need to be away from the hotel by more like 09:00.

Depart Bondues at 12:00 for the Albert Ball crash site memorial, arriving approx. 12:30.

Laying of a wreath and commemoration by Mark Henry

13:00 head off for the restaurant Le Maisnil Mon Temps for lunch at 13:30

http://www.restaurant-lemaisnilmontemps.fr/

Depart apres lunch for the Eurotunnel or for those staying on for Monthlery head off to Laon with Ian Parkinson.

For those on the 18:20 Chunnel we would need to leave the restaurant by 15:45 to take the back roads or about 16:30 using the motorway (non toll).

Looks good to me Red Leader. We shall be in the 34 Supersport, heavily laden with luggage so may lag behind a little on the Bruges to Annouelin stretch.

With our planned visit to the carshow at the Aerodrome at Bondues we will be entering the Lille ZPA air protection zone. This is only activated in cases of high levels of pollution and when active vehicles require a Crit'Air badge to use the zone.

The fines for non compliance are quite steep so it's worth getting a Crit'Air sticker just in case. They are only €4.21 and last the life of the vehicle.

Apply at https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/en/

You will need to attach a photo or scan of the cover and page 2 of your V5 registration document and the hardest part of the process is to get these images under 400kB each! (I scanned mine then emailed them to myself selecting the option to resize large images and that seemed to work)

In the application form I used:

Make:Morgan
Commercial Description: Three Wheeler
Indication of the environmental category: Euro3
CO2: Left blank

Delivery is about 10 days.

Chris - thanks for the friendly reminder for this. I would love to join but it's looking unlikely, the magazine eats any free time I have, and there are trips to Finland, Latvia, Germany, Holland and god-only-knows-where lined up in the coming months.

I want to thank you, and the others, for making this such a great event. Bon voyage!

Rich.

Rudi our man in Belgium has confirmed that as the only OLDIE ( Mog and driver) before Kev says it. The Climate Air Critique will not apply to us going in to Lille to the Classic Car Meet. You M3W guys are Ok with a permit.( if needed)

With 9 days to go, here are a couple of changes:

Friday’s lunch stop will now be in Bray-Dunes as parking should be easier (head for Parking Place Jerome Ruben)

On friday night we will be joined for dinner by Johan and Marion Van Damme who live near Bruges. Johan is about to start a renovation/rebuild of a 1935 Matchless Super Sports

I will email Garmin routes to Mark, Steve, Ricardo, Shaun, Ian, Bob and Lee. If anyone else would like them please let me know.

cheers

I was showing some visitors around the Dakota at the RAF Metheringham museum classic car meeting today and met a woman called Caroline, who is the Great Niece of Albert Ball. She told me that she had been at the Albert Ball event in France last year as one of the family representatives and had seen lots of Morgan 3 Wheelers. She showed me some photos on her phone from the event, many familiar faces. A Photo attached of her with my M3W and the Dakota, on a rather cold and grey "drive your classic" day.

After burning excessive amounts of midnight oil, just finished off putting the Mog back together. New petrol/oil tank were a sod to fit needing much manipulation and modifications. Neither the engine nor dashboard went back particularly easy either.
Out for long road test over Exmoor this morning.
See you at Ashford Thurs evening.

It is steeper in the flesh. The lane at the top is like a half pipe. I did not have the balls to get more than half way up, but some of the older (racing trim) Three Wheelers did it effortlessly - one of them hands-free!

I think it may have been this one (apologies for the poor quality of enlargement from the Revival site), but if anyone else remembers Plateaux G please correct me

1929 Super Aero. It looked as though it was driven by a man, with a slightly smaller passenger. It went like the clappers.
