What a great day out...!!
Thanks to everyone for joining in a what is an unique experience. Descending from Gore Cross on the A360 is like going back in time... the village has no postcode, there is no mobile phone signal, no electricity, no noise.... well other than 18 or so Morgans!
We met up at the Rose and Crown in Tiltshead, a few miles away. Somehow a traditional car and traditional Morgans look so good together!
After lunch we drove to the village and all lined up along the High Street, Aero cars at one end, the rest in a row into the distance. A couple of good photos below showing the cars in front of the re-built village houses: very different from the original village, they are used for house to house combat training.
The MOD are a bit paranoid about visitor safety, as this sign over a certain yellow +4 shows.....!
We walked up to the church, which is much as it was in 1942: lots of posters and information and people selling books, articles and honey. the honey is special, the bees are in hives on Salisbury Plain and forage the wild flowers that grow across the training area. As the farm land was last used in the 1940s pesticides and fertilisers have never been used.
