As a some of those who took part in the Grindelwald trip know, I am planning a trip to New Zealand with my 3-wheeler. One or two expressed some interest in possibly sharing a container with me. I am probably looking at arriving in New Zealand in March next year.

Anyone still interested?

How much food will you need for the journey?

Hi

Sounds great, we would love to welcome you to the antipodes!
Please ensure that you keep us up to date with your plans as we offer a friendly face in Auckland.
There are possibly a dozen three wheelers here spread around the country
The Mog club can also offer support.

The wife and I should be retired for the second time by then!

Cheers

Nigel and wendy

Bank of Mum & Dad is depleted just now, but how I would relish that trip. Took a camper from top to bottom of both islands a few years back. You will enjoy it for certain.

Hi Ric, Iā€™m probably going to be touring North Island in Feb, March with Daughter and Granddaughter. Seeing my cousin in Auckland first, and then probably hiring a campervan to get around. Itinerary is still to be worked out. The next few weeks should have things sorted. It would be good to try and meet up somewhere with yourself and maybe some other 3 Wheeler drivers if we can work things out.

I've been threatening to return to NZ for years, preferably over the christmas period so that I don't get too depressed by the over the top nonsense we have to put up with in this country. It would be even better to take my +4, instead of buying a small RV over there.

You don't want to bring your container forward do you Ric?

Hi,
NZ trip sounds great. I never thought of taking my 4/4 away like this but interestingly Iā€™d like to do both USA and NZ this way. Roughly what cost to ship by container?

Have a great trip

I don't have an M3W (I'm afraid) but Mrs. W and I will be in the North Island in March so we'll keep our eyes open for you.

Thank your wife please Philip. Very thoughtful. I used to be medium, but latterly I have found the necessity to go for a large size for some reason.

Southampton to USA New York is circa Ā£6k return for two cars in a 40 foot container. So Ā£3k each. It's cheaper by RORO but your car can only travel with the spare and toolkit. Friends have had problems (theft) in the past with RORO. Don't forget you will need marine insurance as well. Circa 0.5% car's value.

Ricardo,

It would be good to meet up if possible. There may be one or two other familiar faces if plans come into fruition.

A few people have been asking about our New Zealand Plans. I have added the planned route to my blog for anyone interested:

https://rh03mog.com/2019-new-zealand/

The cars start their long journey to New Zealand on 13th December - that has come round quickly!

Iā€™m looking forward to starting our trip on March 8th.

Again, the forum has been a great help with planning and finding insurance.

Richard

The container carrying our cars is on this ship which has just arrived in the Port of Tauranga New Zealand. 6 weeks wait now until we are with them in Auckland.

Tauranga was a lovely town when we visited a few years ago, when my son and his girlfriend (now wife) were working there. The hill on the right looks like Mount Maunganui, a local highspot and worth the hard walk up it.

I will be following your adventures with great interest, it is a route I would like to do myself in a year or two, sadly this year would not have worked for me.

Have a great time, I know you will.

Nigel if the containers are offloaded at Tauranga (likely) they will be rail freighted to Auckland metro port (penrose) to be processed.

Yes the container is being offloaded from the Spirit of Hamburg and is being taken by rail to Auckland Metroport.

We are tracking both. As of 2.55 this morning the container has been offloaded and is on a train to Auckland.
