Having lurked on the site for a few weeks I thought it was time for introductions!

I’m currently sat waiting for my new Plus 4 to be built, to say I’m excited is an understatement !

I’ve looked at/considered Morgan’s on and off for many years, having first seen one at Earle’s Court motor show in 1968 when my dad took me as a wide eyed 7 year old. I can remember well seeing a dark green 4 seater on the Morgan stand and pleading with Dad to buy one.....which of course he didn’t..

After a long and varied car history though, I decided that it was high time I scratched the Morgan itch and the more investigating and research (on line) that I did the more I knew that I no longer wanted a Morgan, I NEEDED one.

Got chatting to the guys from Oakmere at the Goodwood Revival in September and visited their showrooms for a test drive on 8 October, and out my order in.

I’ve gone for the 110 Edition Plus 4 in Sports Green, Magnolia upholstery, stainless wires and walnut dash/ Moto Lita wheel. (Won’t bore you with the full spec but you get the drift!)

Oakmere arranged a factory visit which Swmbo and I did a week or so ago and was luck enough to meet my car during its build. The tour guide (David Shaw) went out of his way and above and beyond the call of duty in making sure we found the car and spent some time drooling over it.

The guys were just about to punch the louvres in the left hand bonnet as we passed, and I even got to operate the fly press and punched lower louvre no. 7 myself. Amazing!

So I’ve got shed loads of noobie questions coming up over the next few weeks/months/years but I’ll try to contain myself as a lot of these will be answered once I’ve taken delivery and looked closely/used it.

So that’s it for a long introduction, I know I’ll learn a lot from this forum and look forward to meeting fellow Morganists at some events next year.

Meantime I’ll see if I can work out how to post a couple of in - build photos - I thought I’d worked it out but obviously not!

Welcome to Talk Morgan !!!

I too was able to put a louvre in my bonnet on my black 4/4 in Nov 2014..great experience and I got it straight !!!!

Enjoy your new car...Oscar Wilde said "anticipation is better than arrival"..but not in the case of waiting for your new Morgan...the build up days seem to last forever then suddenly collection day arrives and it is a marvellous occasion !!!!

Welcome to TM FW! grin2

To post photos you will need to save them to a hosting site and then post a link to them.
If you don't have an account with a photo hosting web site that allows linking then I recommend signing up with www.tm-img.com (set up and maintained by a couple of forum members) where you can store photos.
Instructions for linking are on that web site.

Have great fun with your car when it arrives. We look forward to photos smile

Don't be frightened of getting your Mog wet , there aren't usually many dry days in this country and its the only car with 3 wipers despite the odd internal drip on ones knee !

Welcome on board.

Some very nice roads up there. I used to live in Bolton and spent many happy hours on my bikes around Skipton.

Wow guys, thanks so much for the warm welcome.

@grahamG4FUJ thanks for the link, I’ll give it a go when I get back from walking dog.

@ivormog you’re right, there are some great roads in these parts, especially out in the directions you mention. Spent about 25 years riding a variety of motorbikes in this area and some of the smaller roads will be very Morgan friendly in view of its narrow width and ability to be fun at sane speeds.

@madmax you’re absolutely right - I am keen to keep the car in good condition but equally it’ll definitely be getting wet. I think I’ll be picking up Jan/Feb from Oakmere so the first outing will be in cold, wet, and possibly snowy conditions...

@kevfitz it certainly feels very special to have had a very small hand in the build. Can’t guarantee my handiwork is straight, it took a couple of goes as I’d under estimated the amount of force needed. The guys doing it made it look like they were putting no force in - which I found out they clearly were!

I’ll try to put some pictures up later

Driving on snow can be entertaining in a Mog. The back end breaks away quite easily, so go easy on the right pedal.
I had my Roadster in for a service and the Beast from the East hit.

Driving back from Allon whites to Amersham was entertaining esoecially as we lived on an unadopted private road on a hill!

Enjoy the new car.

Nice car @johnV6!

Interesting comment about living on a hill on an unadopted road....that’s exactly out position too! Not a severe hill but enough that certain German automatics ive had in the past had to be left in the village as they wouldn’t get up the hill..

I can always ask Swmbo to push if I get stuck, don’t fancy leaving the Mog in the village on the day of collection. It’d probably be fine but you ever know!

Ok, have I think now worked my way through the imaging site, I’m sure I’ll get better at it but just now I’m struggling to get the pictures in a sensible order! But nevertheless here they are!

this photo is of it as per last week, having primer applied

This is me stood next to it as per its build stage when we went

These are me putting bonnet Louvre in, pictures actually the wrong sequence..
and now the professionals showing how it should be done

a couple more gratuitous pictures of the build as at 15 November
we were lucky enough to get to sign the woodwork, enabling me to dedicate the car to the memory of my late father who instilled in me a passion for all things petrol...as long as they had 2,3 or 4 wheels.....the subsequent pictures are people signing it, including the guy who was looking after assembly at this stage.

Glad you got to sign the framework - I did the same 8 years ago. Enjoy no matter the weather - I`m in Derby now (trying to convert the natives) but originally from Saddleworth area - great Mog roads in that area.
Enjoy.

So nice to make that dedication.

But of course you now know you can never part with it.

I carry the name "Shy Tot" on my car in memory of my grandfather who had it on his scramble bike and Austin 7 hill climber.

Keep saying it and you will " get " it..I was young at the time and never got it till much later !!!

Yes, quite...every vehicle I have bought in the past has been bought knowing it will be sold. The plan is the Mog stays...

I do still have my first proper motorbike (a 1961 98cc Excelsior) which I got in 1975 when I was 14 as a crate of parts, Dad saying “you’ve got 3 years to rebuild it if you want to be on the road when you’re 17”..with some help from him, this was achieved!

Hello from germany. I think we can have a shakehands. I'm also fresh in TM. And I've also keep my first motorbike (also a birthday present now 41years ago). As I ordered my MOG at BHM late September I was also affraid abput the weather. But no worries! Collected the MOG last monday and now travelled 1300Km in South Britain and 700KM home yesterday, the most time in rain I can say: it works.

Word of warning....if it's a loose surfaced road, don't spin the back wheel's.the small stones will play hell with the rear wings paintwork.

Mr Wolfie, welcome

From your first post and car description, I thought it rang a bell, then when I looked further in the tree I recognise you. We met as you were waiting for your Factory tour on the 15th

Hope you both enjoy your new Mog & please join the Yorkshire Region of the MSCC

Ah good to hear from you Cooperman! I’ll join the Yorkshire MSCC for sure, just waiting for delivery 😁

@ray, thanks for the warning. I remember when I got my first Defender (which is similarly naked in the wheel arches), I was driving through central Bradford on my way home. A stone got flicked up, and I genuinely thought I’d been shot at! (Especially given where I was ).

@xc68anc, that sounds like a fabulous way to pick the car up and get used to it. Hope all went well.

I’ve been sent some more pictures so I’ll indulge myself by posting them here too ..thanks again to David Shaw (who might or might not be on this forum, but I’ll thank him anyway)

Interesting that the ivory car in picture 3 has the high level brake light on, but doesn’t seem to be on mine (and can’t see a hole for it.) I’m sure all will be revealed on collection.

If you look at your last photo, you can just see the small block of ash above the spare wheel recess that your hi-level light will be screwed too, it fits in the gap twixt bodywork and spare wheel

Thanks guys.

On reflection I should have opted for the leather on steering column cover, round mirrors and 2 eared spinners..still, they’re only cosmetic and the sort of fettling things that bring pleasure to ownership. Just need to hide any costs from Swmbo

That looks wonderful.

You can always get the steering column covered when you get the side screen inner panels fitted - like I should have done. However, my side screen inner panels were a Christmas pressie from swmbo

Ah, not actually collecting the car, the dealer is delivering it on a trailer. The journey between home and the dealers is deeply unpleasant and a route I avoid whenever possible in any vehicle!

So as they offered to deliver FOC on a trailer I thought I’d take that option and have my first journeys on moorland roads instead of the M62 ....

Yes good call

M6 and M62 wouldn’t be the most memorable and pleasant for a first Morgan experience

There are some nicer routes from Oakmere over to West Yorks through the Cheshire countryside, across the top of The Peak District, up via Holmfirth or The Colne Valley then but only if you’ve got a very good map, co-pilot or a long time.

This has the makings of an epic thread, I don’t know how I missed it earlier.

Not that my enthusiasm needs rekindled, but seeing those pictures at the factory brings back that excited feeling, in my case, most likely a once in a lifetime experience.

It’s a cracking spec you’ve chosen, I particularly like the leather with the coloured piping and stitching, and the black mats are a sensible choice.

The mirrors you have look fine but if you want to change them, there are better round mirrors than the aero ones, I had to make some drastic alterations to get mine to point in the right direction.

You’re probably right about not driving on the M6, it was a miserable part of our journey home, but having recently visited Ilkley, that’s an area I’d like to revisit with more time to drive around, lots of scenic exploration to do.

Don't forget to have someone still pointing the right way up on hand to remember to take lots of photos of that moment etc. Camera charged, go-pro thingy ready for your first trip out.

Luckily (hmm maybe not) on Monday we have fortnightly “bottoming” of the house to do, so I’ll be very much distracted.

Have usefully spent some time booking Silverstone Classic as per my other post and started to look at places to go in it too.

Oh yes indeed.. there’ll be plenty taken, then I’ll be deciding which pictures from the ones I’ve taken I’m going to put into a Vistaprint style photo book.

Thanks for the kind words .

Useful info re the Aero mirrors, I have gathered from the Dave W “how to tame your dragon” book that there are a number of round head mirror choices, so I’ll not rush into buying the official ones but have a look round at some shows such as the March NEC one. (Day pass from Swmbo still to be negotiated though!)

We’re not far from Ilkley, in fact the road to the bottom of my road is the moorland road over to Ilkley. Send me a PM if you like if you make it back and I can let you have some decent routes round winky and maybe a cheers

rofl It’s going to be a bit of a funny day, because after delivery/licking the paintwork etc I have to go out and don’t get back until late afternoon...but that kind of doesn’t matter cos it’ll be here and ready to roll at a moments notice.

Swmbo is out all day Wednesday so I’ll get plenty of 1 on 1 with the Moggie then love

Well what a sleepless night that was! But eventually morning came, and luckily I had set the alarm which meant I was actually up at 8.00 (albeit in my pyjamas and dressing gown) when the guys arrived with the car pantsdown I was expecting them between 9 and 9.30....

Sadly I have had no time to do anything today with the car (pretty well as anticipated). I have managed to read the comprehensive users manual though, a bit thinner than the usual fare that comes with a car but does at least assume a modicum of intelligence on the users part.

The car came with a nice 100 years of Morgan book, and a centenary DVD which I assume were courtesy of Oakmere, which was a nice touch. They have been superb so far!

I have only driven it up the drive and into the garage, but hopefully in the next couple of days I’ll get out in it!

Some photos but I need to refresh myself about posting them. I’ve got them on the image hosting site, but can’t seem to get them over to here...will have another look later.

Ok, realised what I’d done wrong so have got some quick pics

First picture is fairly self explanatory, the guys did have to do a bit of shuffling to turn the rig around as it’s a no through road!

They had to back it off almost into next doors drive, luckily they weren’t in laugh2

Then after unloading they drove it into my driveway and that was it!

They arrived at 8 am and were gone by 8.15, very efficient! I even offered them a cuppa as it was b....y freezing despite looking sunny. But they wanted to get off..

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it Martin but if you are struggling to adjust the nearside door mirror to get a decent rear view angle, particularly for reversing into a garage or actually seeing what’s behind, don’t worry we’ve all been there

Most of us has given up and swapped the mirror and stems for one of several after-market round convex mirrors from the likes of Phoenix Designs (aka Morgan hoods) or Heart of England Morgans

It’s all part of the fun

Honest

Something special about a new shiny Morgan..

Hope it meets your expectations and is good to you !!!

There is a wealth of experience on this Forum and most members have experienced most of the quirkiness of the Morgan.

No question is too dumb to ask..this is how we all learned.

Enjoy your car !!!

Thanks for all the nice comments!

@stewart s - although I’ve only put car in garage so far, I agree the left hand mirror was utterly useless. The car we took out on test was slightly better (but still poor) so I think I can get a bit more adjustment - currently an only see the sky! It’ll make reversing out of the garage “interesting” especially with the difficulty seeing over the shoulder as a result of the hood being up.

I was looking at Heart Of England on line, and will probably go for round heads from them. Swmbo has already authorised the purchase as I suggested it was a safety issue innocent

I concur with the round mirrors advice.

Something else to do is to fit mirrors in the garage to make seeing the side nearest the wal / door frame a bit easier. A lorry mirror from eBay is often very cheap and gives additional reassurance.

I can certainly recommend the ones from www.morganhoods.com

The method of adjusting works well

I’ve had two Morgans and each time I’ve swapped them to these

If you want to fiddle with the mirrors you have, I’ve renewed the post in the photo gallery which shows how I made my ones work.

You just undo the machine bolt in the mount stem and wiggle the existing stems out of the mount. The plastic bush in the end just pulls out as well

Then just simply put the plastic bush over the end of the new stem and put the stems in the mount

Do up the retaining bolt and adjust

It’s an easy 10 minute job

A few have found it difficult to the pull the stems out but just make sure you have loosened the retaining bolt (I take it fully out) and if it doesn’t come out easily give it a bit of tug with a twist but I’ve never had an issue

Well HB, the car has sat in the garage again today.

It’s bl—dy freezing here today and I wussed out mainly because the roads were heavily salted overnight. I’m sure it’ll get salted underneath, rained on and probably worse at some point but I’m a bit reluctant to make that it’s first trip out..I don’t plan for the car to be a garage queen though.

I did however learn a lot about getting in and out as I was trying to get the left hand mirror better adjusted and couldn’t do it from inside the car. My arm was about 2 feet and one articulation short..must have got in and out 20 times trying to (unsuccessfully) sort it.

New mirrors have been ordered, from Stewart S’s suggested source.

Don’t blame you.
Re the mirrors how about a set of those clippers that people use to pick up litter. Store them in the passenger footwell and can then move mirror without leaving the drivers seat. Alternatively sellotape your wife’s compact mirror to a long stick and sticking that out the side. (Or yours if more appropriate-don’t wish to make any assumptions in this day and age). It’s like watching Blue Peter once I’m on a roll....
Hope that helps.

After Stewart S recommendation I contacted John at Morgan hoods.com to sort the mirrors out.

Today the postie arrives with the goodies, which were duly fitted to the car this morning. So not only have I driven the car now, I’ve even fettled it laugh2

I’m made up with the mirrors, they seem high quality and even better I can actually see in them!

So thanks Stewart for the pointer and thanks John for the great service. thumbs

Pleased you like them and they work

DaveW (the king of neoprene) sourced a neoprene strip that fits perfectly in the gap around the the adjuster plate which looks bob on and just pushes in
