The fuel gauge of my 2015 4/4 is eccentric...

With full tank, the needle goes above max and stays there for a considerable distance. Then it drops, rather rapidly, to ½. It stays there for a considerable distance and then drops rapidly to ¼.

That's all fine, but then it gets weird. The needle drops suddenly to well to the left of zero, though I now know from experience that the tank is not empty (or even worse than empty, as suggested!).

A few miles later, the needle swings back to the right, to nearly half full.

The gauge of my M3W was hopelessly pessimistic after half the fuel had been used. But this is ridiculous...

That sounds plausible. You'd think it would just conk out, though, rather than jumping down and up again.

You can sort that out with a bit of insulating tape

I used to own an Alfa 75 Twin Spark. It was a great car and I wish I still had it, but some aspects of the interior design were demented. For example, there was a red warning light about 2in square that flashed when the handbrake was applied. That got covered in tank tape.

200 is a safe limit.

Sounds like the gauge on all 3 Morgans I have had but not the wired but below 1/4 tank.
I use 200 miles as a refill point.
