I bought my 1st Plus 8 from Richard Thorne and he was very pleasant to deal with and the car had no issues at all.

Phil @ Allon white told me once that some cars they buy in from private sellers, often described as being in good condition, actually need quite a bit of fettling/rectification to get them upto standard.

Nowt wrong with a private deal but i'd have a chat to a decent dealer - mentioned already but BHM often have good cars within the price range and they get sold before they go-on the web in some cases.

Personally I have found both BHM and Allon white to be decent, honest, enthusiast run dealers who will look after you. This has been confirmed by other Morgan owners I have spoken to - I have never heard a bad word against them.

A bit like finding a car that suits you - best to do that with a dealer as well - they are not all the same!

That is true. They took our old 4/4 in on part-ex. It was coming up to 29 years old at the time and we thought it was very good mechanically but needed some minor fettling cosmetically - which we made Phil aware of before he saw the car. When we picked up the new car, Phil told me that, on getting our old car on the ramps, they had found a rear wheel bearing that was badly worn as well as a carburettor fault. Both were fixed with new parts before they sold the car because, in Phil’s words “We want all the cars to go out and not to come back under warranty.”

I'm in the initial throws of ownership, having bought my 72 4/4 at the start of December.

Very pleased I got it from a dealer, as it's had over £700 worth of work done under warranty (dealer prices mind) since I bought her (not really surprising as I've done more mileage in the last three weeks than she'd done in the previous 5 years).

With such an expensive purchase I wanted to have the confidence that everything worked, or would be fixed by someone who really knew what they were doing.

Once the warranty lapses I will probably do most of the work/servicing myself.

Cheers guys

Much as I would love to save a few quid buying private I think I would go the dealer rout too.

Basic running gear is easy to assess, its the eccentricities of the chassis and body that I would like to have covered :-)

I will be paying both BHM and my local dealer Bell & Colvill a visit in the new year.... Ive just got to get through xmas and new year before I can go have a chat and a gander :-(

Bones
