Very nice, but I can't help thinking it wouldn't be as practical as even a Morgan. What would you actually do with it?

Actually there is some luggage space- a BOC member carries her disability scooter under the front lid - where there is also a small crane to lift said scooter in/out.
Probably not as much room as a F-Type mind, which isn't exactly endowed with luggage capacity anyway. I'd still rather go for an XK-8 smile

Practical? If I want "practical" I buy a Focus or similar. Or use the bus or train.

Let me put it this way, did you marry that nice homely girl your mother approved of or that flighty young woman with the cheeky grin, flirty nature and big .... ? Did practicality come into the decision?

It did??? shocked2 Good God!

That's reassuring. If there's enough room to get an overnight bag for two in, then it makes a great deal more sense. Otherwise one would be restricted to only being able to do single-day drives, which is kind of limiting, really.

Having sold the Ferrari, why on earth would you buy a McLaren, you have the same "problems". Just go and buy a Roadster and have done with it.

Under the skin i.e outer panels removed - McLarens are THE best engineered cars i have ever seen.

Porsche are good.
Bentley and Range Rovers are no better than Division 2.
Ferrari are really really poor Division 3.

McLaren's are however, screwed together beautifully, engineered superbly - and I would have one...if money allowed

I do agree with Reg, however I can only comment from the perspective of the 12C that a mate owned.

Whilst being lovely to look at and very quick, it sounded like a bunch of angry wasps behind the seats not a V8!

Sound advice, he is on his second. I had a ride in the first one and have drooled over the second. He took my daughter out for a spin in it. She came back saying that "I want one"!!

Had a prod round a McLaren in the summer. The paint finish was wonderful and the attention to detail in the interior was awesome. Sadly I didn't get a ride in it. The chap that owned it (a serial buyer of similar cars) had only had it 6 months and was thrilled with it.

I think the 540 and 570 are superb products and you’d be in a strong buying position just now, they seem to be able to knock quite a chunk off the asking prices.
The flip side is, you need to really use the thing, that’s the point of a new and capable super car, these are good value per mile if you pile them on, but they lose a lot sitting in your garage.

I would buy one, but I’d genuinely rather have an Aero Supersport.

Yes I saw that woman and her car at Prescott. She's tiny and so is her scooter. That said, the McLaren has a lot more luggage space than my F type spider had. Not as much as the 430 though - that was quite well endowed.

Surprisingly positive comments from the forum.
The problem with McLaren is the cost, both in depreciation and in running costs. Ferrari are surprisingly reasonable because parts arent as silly as say Lambo or even Audi and there are plenty of idies to service the car. Depreciation has been glacial of late and negative for cars like the Speciale.

The McLaren forums are unanimous in recommending the factory gurantee not because the cars are unreliable but because the costs of doing anything are high and you have only main dealers to do the work . The guarantee is £5k pa. Depreciation is high compared to Ferrari. Not as bad as Aston but high all the same.

If only I were rich!

... perhaps buy one when it's done most of its depreciating, and stick with the factory guarantee.

I'm not sure how early a car that would imply - McLaren did good work on setting up finance deals 2 or 3 years ago - some of those cars will be coming to market... at some point they'll be good value

In 2017 we were on the M6 headed up to Morgans at Widermere. Two McClarens passed us. Lovely looking cars so I followed them. No speeding but maintaining 70 ish.
I often wonder what people were thinking as the 3 of us passed.....
Both cars exited in, I think, the Blackpool/Lancaster area but not certain.

I struggle to get the appeal as they do nothing for me at all

Wouldn’t mind a drive of one just to see what they are like as I would a Lamborghini but when I’ve seen them at car meets, I forget to take any real notice

I'd have one in a heartbeat were I not an impoverished pensioner - I have given these a good scrutinise at Goodwood FOS and they are very well put together.
I'd not get a fourth car by swmbo radar.

Yeah I agree Stewart. I can appreciate the engineering but I don't have a use for a car like this. I could find a use for D Type Jag though.

I went to a Liverpool cars and coffee meet late last year and apparently there were 3 McLarens parked opposite me all morning

I say apparently as I didn’t even clock them and found out after I left, although I did take s photo of 7 Lambos all lined up behind me, which was quite a sight, not because I lust after them but because they looked quite photogenic in a long low line with their acid colour combination

The thing that strikes me with these type of supercars is how rediculously low they are

How do owners drive over speed bumps or get into and out of car parks?
