As a matter of pure academic interest, has any taken/passed/failed their driving test in a Morgan.

I know that test examiners have the right to refuse cars that they don't care for for one reason or another.

Sadly no. I took mine in a ruddy great Citroen DS Safari and passed first time. My first drive in a Morgan was the test run in the car I bought. Love at first sight is real!

All passed first time:
Yamaha FS-E at 16 (1974)
Honda CB125 at 17
Driving school Ford Escort at 17
HGV1 some time in my 20s (can't be rsed to look that one up)

My car and bike tests were originally on the same day, but the bike I had borrowed (from the then RAC/ACU training scheme) - a BSA Bantam turned out to be out of MoT, so the bike test had to wait a few months.

Driving test in Mk1 escort at 17, driving school car.
I remember the conversation with the examiner after he passed me.
Commented on good points like no blocking side roads if stopped etc. He did say I approached junctions/bends a bit fast but was in full control. While sitting doing the signs test with the picture book he asked what speed I would drive along the road ahead of us.
30 was my answer as it was a residential street.
He replied he would do 40!
I didn’t argue!

Bike was an Yamaha TY50
Car (if you can call it that!) was a VW Beetle 1303S.
The instructor did look at it twice before agreeing to use it for the test.

Mk1 Escort belonging to the driving school.
Turned out the examiner was the father of one of the girls at school. A really lovely chap - with a very lovely daughter.

Ford Fiesta for me. 2 attempts as I bumped the kerb with my tyres in the reversing part of the 3 point turn. 2 attempts at the bike test too, on a Honda CB200. Locked the rear wheel in the emergency stop.

Passed car test first time, 5 weeks after 17th birthday in 1967. Taught by my father, no formal lessons.
Took the test in Malvern in a Vauxhall Victor with 3 speed column change and umbrella handbrake so hill starts were quite interesting.

It would seem that nobody has in reply to the OP.

Passed first time in 1968 in a Triumph Herald, they were brilliant for 3 point turns unlike Morgan's.

Never did pass a bike test but it didn't stop me riding quite a few back in the day.

A number of years ago there was an article in the IAM magazine from a gent who took his IAM test in his Morgan. Not aware of anyone doing the Ministry test in one though.

Bike test for me on my Lambretta LI150 in 1966. This makes three of us on this forum by the look of it. Wonder what you all did with your parkas, desert boots and Fred Perry shirts?
Car test in 1970 in a Ford Escort. My instructor used to tell me every time I got in the car that he taught Roger Moore how to drive.

Not quite a Morgan but I took my test in a Mini Moke (May 69), without a hood or side covers. The test examiner came out and said oh an open vehicle, I will get my overcoat, 20 mins later it was all over!! The Moke belonged to my instructors daughter. The instructors Fiat 124 saloon had been written off on my last lesson by an rather impatient artic driver, when it went to court he had 28 previous convictions!

Did/passed the bike test in 1978, one week after 17th birthday on a 98cc Excelsior Consort with a 2 speed villagers engine. The bike is still in the garage! I was lucky enough to have ridden bikes since I was 8. My dads friend took care of a school, where he would let me ride round the playground at weekends and school holidays..couldn’t get away with that now! oldgit

Didn’t bother with car test until 1988, the then wife could drive so if we needed to be in a car I let her or I’d drive with L plates on for years.

Eventually took some lessons and passed on first attempt in the driving schools Citroen BX 14. A much under rated car I think..

As replied earlier passed not long after 17 birthday.
In my teens I used to drive a Willys Jeep, still with US markings. My dad’s mate bought it so we could get onto Pembrey sands to go fishing. I learned to drive it on the forestry tracks, dunes and beach. Awesome vehicle! Good way to learn car control.
LHD with low/high gearstick plus normal 4 speed. Canvas “roof” with no sides, fold flat windscreen.
Don’t tell anyone but at night we went “lamping” in it.......me driving no lights. Switch them on and catch rabbits startled. Passenger with shotgun, on safety, rabbits were sitting ducks. In those days access to the forest was restricted but we had a key off the Forestry people to go in. Couldn’t do it now as public have easy access.
To get in we crossed the abandoned Pembrey airfield. I later taughtthe childrento drive on there using runways, taxi andaccess roads. It is reopened as an airfield now though.

We always use the driving school car. The teacher has an extra set of pedals. They still don‘t trust you up to the examination situation smile

My mother in law was given a driving license as a present by her mil. My mil drove a V8Pilot in Connemara. There were only two other car owners then, the doctor and the priest. I remember her saying that she was never sure that it wouldn't break down and that she became adept at using a starting handle.
