A quick google says that in November 2017 there were -
Half of UK road speed cameras are switched off. Only around half of fixed speed cameras on British roads are switched on, according to new data. Figures released by 36 police forces in the UK show that of a total 2,838 cameras, just 1,486 - or 52% - are active and catching law-breakers.4 Nov 2017

I don't imagine that figure will have changed an awful lot Jacques.

A level headed article here on Speed Cameras UK

We're talking about Hadecs 3 cameras, I think.

"The HADECS 3 speed cameras have so far been installed on the M25 in Kent between junctions 5 and 6/7. More locations are planned on a number of other motorways in the UK, including:

‣M1 in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire
‣M3 in Surrey and Hampshire
‣M4/M5 in Somerset
‣M6 around Birmingham
‣M25 junctions 5 to 6/7 Kent
‣M62 in West Yorkshire"

I guess that as they're fixed, a the databases of decent satnav or radar detector will give alerts

They have been on the M3 since the "smart" motorway section opened. In may ways they are more obvious, mounted on a bracket to the left, than when on overhead gantries.

I tend to set the cruise control to 77 (limit plus 10%) on these sections, it will be irritating if they are being lowered to 72!

I was driving down the A27 just before Chichester and possibly too late didn't see a camera van on an over bridge. I was doing about 80mph, indicated, along with all the other traffic. If it was a speed camera the NIP should arrive any day.
It may have been an ANPR check, in which case I'm safe.
