After having to deal at length with Vodafone Automotive for the second time in a week to get their Tracker working on two different cars, this occasion on Sunday unsuccessfully with my Aeromax, I have decided to try get this problem product deleted from my cars where possible.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company that does not stipulate a Tracker for cars over £75k value (as my current insurance company does)?

Have you tried the approved Mog insurers as listed in Miscellany, eg Gott & Wynne, Headley, etc ?

Gott and Wynne.
Heritage

Both insured Tarka, agreed value £79.500 without the need for a Tracker.

BUT it may be post code lottery: I live in the SP post code area where risks are deemed to be low. I suspect in a city it may be different.

A side comment from Tracker, they will not fit it to a Plus 8 or any open car that doesn't have a locked boot or bonnet.

Same here and no tracker required for my plus 8 even when new.

Liverpool Victoria don't need a tracker for mine.... I didn't want one either having had trackers fitted on previous cars.

Oddly I found the opposite, my Merc E-class was insured with LV, when I changed it for a GL-class they wouldn't insure it without a tracker. I went on-line and quickly insured it with another company for a similar premium but no requirement for a tracker.

The house, Audi and +4 are with LV but they wouldn't insure the Aero - unsure if it was value or performance related or something else.

Both tin-tops and the house are with LV, but they wouldn't offer cover on the Plus 8, said it was too specialist.

Interesting. BMW 6 series Gran Coupe, VW beetle, Aero plus 8 (2015) and Morgan roadster (2011) all covered by LV. Both Morgans less than the BMW at about £500 plus 8 from memory £350 roadster £200. All garaged separate policies, named drivers self 49, partner 51 booked on line and no tracer requirement. Had a total loss last year on the policy before it became the beetle paid out by return. Colleague run off road in new 12 month old mini, other party left the scene LV paid out the full PCP settlement figure no questions asked. For the plus 8 Morgan Insurance and G&W were requiring a tracer and spluttering about quoting.

Strange that LV insure some and not others. LV insure mine without a tracker and have never asked for one.

Indeed...
We have an LV Multi Car policy, I called them directly, not through a broker.
I'll try them again when the Morgan insurance is due.

In many cases there are other riders on the decision.

Is it a soft soft-top (not hardtop convertible, SLK style) - not worth fitting.
Is it on the high risk register (Defenders, RS6 etc) as it is popular currently.
Is it above the house limit, varying from 60k-80k depending on company.

They did in 2014, mines fitted with one and all works ok.

Not meant in a rude manner PeterG but the unit loses its value when it cannot be hidden and protected by the cars body.

If you are able to reach into the engine bay without any alarm or protection it renders the value poor and their agreement with the insurance companies useless.

You can be as rude as you like Alistair wink
I totally agree with you, trackers on Morgans are a daft request by the insurance companies. The cars are hardly secure (Aero coupe etc aside), my insurers insisted on one though and as they are less than half the price per annum compared with dedicated Morgans insurers, I had one fitted.

When I say it works, I should of said that they know where my car is. Until someone rips out the unit slap

I've a tracker, and it's not in the engine bay.

It does give me some reassurance that I'd get a call if my car moved unexpectedly.

But, yeah, on the whole there's so little risk of these cars being stolen, it's kinda academic.

I think the only place it would fit and be both secure and invisible would be with the ABS unit under the N/S wing. An expensive installation that could only be done at the factory or at a Morgan Dealership.

I asked "why not" next to the fuel tank. They said you can't have a radio transmitter next to a fuel tank. Given the BMW system is sealed and there is no ventilation to the outside that seems illogical.

Perhaps the new Morgan will have BMW's "Connected" technology: I know where the M140 is at any time from the map in the App. I can call BMW to report the car stolen and they can send a command to the CPU that means the next time the ignition is turned off the engine cannot be started. The AMG has the same feature.

By way of update, the Equity tel number led to company called RH insurance... https://www.rhspecialistinsurance.co.uk

As they did not require a Tracker and the premium was reasonable, have gone with them. Thanks.

Nice to help . Next time I am up your way may pop in the Sarrie for a lemonade with you " I DON'T DRINK '. The thing I rofl at was our village RUGBY 2nd team was up there a few years ago and the bus broke down in a rough area and no one had the balls to get out and ask directions . Had I been there with my mates we would have been out and into a local in seconds. grin2

I still use Doug Peacocks phone no from the 1980s . We stayed at this place in the late 1980s he wanted to go to the pub took a short cut over a grave yard and back . I was hungry in the pub and he said his partner was going to make some food . I got some nuts she was a vegan almost died of hunger . But we still slept on the floor it was a huge Victorian house . In the middle of the night my bladder sent me a call , I went to the door and it only opened from the other side . The lights also . But his partner was crazy over Cacti and loads of them in plant pots on the floor . That was the most worrying time as I had to get near and point into a plant pot in the dark . It could have been more than one prick in my hand . I say hand I could have been the only man with two pricks down there. Hows that for boasting. innocent

Steve me writing a book I dare not firstly it would be bad for your health you would end up with a sore belly from laughing . Dug told me most of the doors in this house did not work , he had a young lady working for him and a high up the ladder chap coming to visit him to see how things had been going and see if he needed anything . He told the young lady to go into one of the bedrooms up stairs and read a book or do some work . While the bloke was in the place ( Hence keep out of the blokes way so it was all tickity boo ). She did the bloke arrived but after a while the girl wanted the loo and the bloody door upstairs also stuck she had to shout for Dug to get her out . I told him it was against the law to lock pretty women in a bedroom . He told me only if you get caught .

It was near my b/day and June had sorted out a do at a pub behind my back . I heard a knock at the door and a pretty young lady with a parcel I looked at it and it was a Motolita s/wheel . I told her thats not mine . She told me it was . This went on a while my temper was going up. Then Dug who was sitting in the car got out . They had set me up and out to dry it was his partner .
I had no idea they had been invited . In they came after a while I showed them to there room and they shot into it . A good while later while on the long landing Dug came out of there bedroom in just his trousers and had a huge naughty grin on his face . I looked at him and said "you hav'nt have you" his grin got bigger I shook my head smiled and went down stairs . We off to the pub and met up with the rest of the mog owners , then back to our house for a party . Some sitting on floor some on fire place some in garage . A good night plenty of drinks food and one chap seemed to have hit the jackpot . As 9 month later he was a daddy to a lovely little baby girl . Steve I may end up inside if I wrote a book and so would a lot of others . But I think the judge would rofl or ask can he come . hide
