I now hold the world record for standing jump with dog.
To be honest I cheated a bit because I was actually walking at the time. I was on a pedestrian crossing at the edge of a round-about when a car driven by an old duffer came aroundd the corner, the driver looked straight at me but did not slow down. Fortunately I was both watching and had the dog on a short lead. I made a flying leap to the curb and at the same moment the driver of the car hit the brakes and started to skid.
The result was a hit, no more than painful, of my heel that was behind me against his bumper bar. I was still in mid air, and so was the dog, at the time. Fortunately no real consequences to either myself or the little dog.
What really annoys me is that the bastard did not even stop. Once past the pedestrian crossing he just kept going and nobody who observed the incident managed to get his plate number.
Unfortunately Italy is one of the worst places when it comes to respect of pedestrian crossings. It is changing slowly but the older drivers are just terrible. If you are on foot in Italy you really need to take care that traffic is stopping when you cross.

You did well Peter. Keep an eye out for him as he is most likely a repeat offender and you might nab him next time.

Thanks. Not bad reaction time for my 72 years. The dog is a small Pincher, a real sweatheart, in theory she is jnr's but she is attached to me like a barnacle. I'm half way through a nice bottle of Piemonte Barbera. If you don't know it it is an excellent red from the Asti region, deep plum, blackberry flavours with a little wood.

That sounds like too close a call.
Enjoy that bottle. You may need to follow it with a medicinal brandy or malt.

Good to read you and dog are doing fine! The other week I had a near miss whilst crossing the street on a zebra cossing. The remarkable thing was it was a police car that almost hit me! Cheers, Bert

I love the way at 72 years old you consider yourself young! Is 72 the new 52?

The flavinoids in red wine will help to keep away the bruising - I suggest you keep on with the medicine as a preventative measure.

PS - may I be the first to use the opportunity to say that a it is appropriate for a TMer to suffer from a bruised eel. Hope the sole was not damaged.

Interesting comment about Italy and crossings. That other Llatin country, Spain, is one of the very best at consideration for people on crossings.

Crossroads in Italy? Some years I made a trip around Italy with my Honda.. AS I stopped at a crossroad to let some pedestrian cross the road they took a step back! And looked verry fearfull! As I stopped at a red traffic light some cars did not stopp behind me but crossed the crossroad!

Had a brake tester this afternoon. Out inthe Mog in town. A woman (est aged early 40’s but who knows!) walked out between cars in the opposite direction traffic on stop. Not looking in my direction. I stopped ok (doing about25mph). I shook my head in disbelief. She shouted something as I carried on. It didn’t have sorry in it!

I am the same now. I don't go in front of someone until I have made eye contact. However these damn electric things can creep up behind you if you are not paying attention. I believe there is a new regulation coming out soon for them to emit "white noise" as they travel below 20 mph to allow increased security in towns.
I cannot wait for the google/apple model which allows ring-tone type noise selection. Should be worth a laugh to see what people select.

What a lovely dog. Is she kitted out for a trip in the Morgan in that coat? There is a small story behind that coat. Friends visiting from Australia brought one as a gift but it was too large. I phoned the company to see if they would swap it for a smaller size if I got it back to them. The owner of the company was really nice and sent the next two smaller sizes free of charge. All he wanted in exchange was some photos of Lea wearing the jacket with the lake in the background and the right to use the photos in their newsletter. https://www.kazoopetco.com.au/I have to say it is beautifully made with a knitted wool inner collar and the outer collar can unfold to give more protection in the rain. Even has a little zip pocket for a spare poo bag. Probably the dog equivalent of a Driza-Bone.
