Thanks for the offer Ian, if I am ever that way I shall have to come have a listen! Ideally I would like to keep the rear quads, as I am rather fond of how they look - but I am wondering if a pair of new sports cats (or removing 2 of the 4 cats) might release more ponies and the accompanying noise.. I guess if that fails then the last options are changing the silencers or manifold...

Nick, in changing out the 4 incredibly heavy original silencers for 2 custom ones, the weight saving is really very significant, I'd guess between 30 & 50kg Interesting: the Aero based +8 has only one silencer each side. It sits under the running board and is just 22" long.

Unfortunately I never handled the Librands system before installation, so no idea how much that weighs in comparison! Any weight saving is good though.

Hi Peter, I have a 2001 S1, and can assure there there were 2 heavy silencers per side, I have all 4 of them in my shed right now!!
I think you may be thinking of the later cars
Rgds
Ian Well, the Aero based +8, that Peter mentioned, wasn't introduced until 2012...

Assuming the Aero based +8, which sits on an S4 Platform, needs only one silencer per side, why did the S1s have 2 per side when the engine was slightly smaller? I'm curious, does anyone know when the change from 2 per side to one happened? The exhaust system is not stainless, so will need replacing at some point. Fortunately in Salisbury we have an exhaust specialist who will make one in stainless steel. Torque Technique A sports cat on either side should also remove weight! Hmm...I think I've just talked myself into a visit.

I think it also depended on the selection of the "performance exhaust" option. My S2 has a single box under either running board going to the single side exhaust on each side. That would suggest it was quite an early option?

Interesting, I assumed all Aero's had the four exhaust boxes, added to the four catalysts... that is a LOT of exhaust!
You would have thought Morgan would have saved some money and installed less of them.

My previous S3 had 4 boxes. I removed the two rear boxes and they are still in my loft today. I can also confirm they are very heavy.
