Sadly Gordon Banks past away y/day nicknamed the cat 4 2 in extra time 1966 . When England had proper footballers .Famous for saving a header acrobatic save from a Pele header at the 1970 world cup Mexico which has gone down in history as one of the greatest moments in football.

RIP englandwave

Fortunate enough to be at Wembley in 1966, sad loss.

Met him when I was a lad. We lived near Leicester City's training ground and would often go and see them train.

We would wait until they had finished and then try and get their autographs. He was one of just a few who would take time and talk to us.

Great shame that his career was cut short by the loss of his eye.

The word great is often used for people, but he truly deserves this accolade.

Nice bloke - I used to work as security/doorman a while back, and looked after him at an event where he was guest speaker. Real genuine character.

It was Peter Bonetti who was nicknamed 'The Cat', another great 'keeper who was unfortunate enough to play during the same era as Gordon Banks.
