I get it. I really get it.
The only times I took a Morgan out was a V6 for a day in 2010 and a Plus 4 for a day in the rain in 2012. I stalled the V6 repeatedly in first gear coz I’m rubbish and drive an auto normally. So I accept I ain’t a skilled driver. Despite this I bloomin love driving and have done many track days inc Top Gear with the Stig, Aston’s, Ferrari’s etc and the 2 seater F1 style car round Silverstone.
A Morgan is like none of these.
Put it like this, I apologise for the possibly childish nature of the language and enthusiasm shown on other threads I have posted on but, to look at, I believe for me it is up there with the Concordes, Spitfires, Aston’s etcetc for the design. That may seem OTT but that’s how I feel.
I picked up my new 110 Plus 4 today. I was excited but actually a bit nervous. Would I be able to drive it without stalling, would my crappy joints inc fingers be able to cope, would Lady HB put up with all the foibles but more than anything, would I enjoy it?
From the start, driving away from the dealership in 50 mph winds, it was noisy, you might say I felt I had to wrench the steering a bit without power assistance. I didn’t stall her once but I wouldn’t claim to be smooth. The hood was up but the weather really was shite. I didn’t care. I loved every ruddy flipping second of it. The front was bouncing up and down, I sometimes felt as if she might be going sideways (she wasn’t) and it sounded like the roof was being ripped off half the time. But I totally and utterly got what you experienced guys n gals are on about. It was like I learnt how to enjoy driving again. I wasn’t comfy (coz I forgot to stop and adjust due to adrenaline) but didn’t stop for breath for 3 hours. I took another TMer suggestion and came back via back roads with Lady HB reading map guidance and speed from the speedo (going to take time to get used to it over there....) - she was utterly brilliant and seemed to it enjoy it too (which is a big relief for me-we are a team after all) and got us home safe. The last 15 miles were on my own, with the roof down, and Lady HB in tow in her car having picked it up from the station, and I absolutely utterly and completely got it. Country lanes that I know well, careful but enthusiastic on the noise pedal (sports exhaust burbling and pinging on the downshift-is there a better sound for 3.5 hours?), and I was home. Florence parked in the garage, bedtime story read, and I am shattered. For personal reasons (this thread is for you little bruv), this has been an emotional journey, trip, experience, call it what you will, but it is one that I shall treasure for the rest of my days and feel privileged to have been able to experience no matter what the circumstances. I am lucky in many respects, including having Lady HB to share the emotions with me.
But ultimately, even after one half day of ownership, I get it.
I hope everyone gets to have a go themselves.
HB

Takes me back to the day I picked up my first new Plus 4 4 seater from LibraMotive (Rob Wells) in London and drove home to Newbury. It was like nothing else I had driven for two decades. You learn very quickly that this is a car which you really have to drive rather than sit in and steer, as in modern cars. You have to become part of the car, listening to all it’s wonderful sounds as it squeaks, creaks and burbles underneath you, feeling the direct steering turn in and getting used to the brakes which require much more pressure, but loving that view over the long bonnet and perky headlight cowls.
Enjoy every moment of your ownership. Get used to sneaking into the garage at all times of the day (and sometimes night) just to have a little look, maybe a feel, and let a satisfying smile cross your face!
Happy days.

It is a pretty fab experience isn’t it driving a Morgan

People ask me how it handles, how does it drive, what the suspension is like, what are the brakes like, what’s it’s like with my new tyres etc

And the real answer is, I don’t know (so sometimes I just make anything up)

It’s so totally different to my daily driver, it’s almost incomparable because the whole experience is so different and there is nothing I don’t like while driving the Morgan so who cares

I imagine it’s like trying to ask a pilot to compare the experience of flying a large modern passenger jet for work to flying a WW1 biplane at the weekends

That a very good analogy Stewart S.
We even had our first flash of headlights and a wave. No one ever did that whilst I was in my A3. Unless followed with a V sign ....

Get used to that HB, unless the flashing is because you have left your indicators on ....again....'cos you can't hear the ticking wink
