I am having a chat with Tayna over an issue with the battery in the Coupe and from the gents comments it would appear they have end-of-life'd the darn thing. No replacement for that one then.

Banner 50200

Just an FYI to avoid people wasting their time trying to find one out in the wild.

Just time to burn a little more petrol before dinner.

Be interesting to see what you find to replace it.

I think my Banner battery is approaching end of life after 5 and a half years.

I drove the car out of the garage on to the drive to wash it. I had the radio on for the hour or so it took to wash and semi-detail the car.
I say detail....well I cleaned under the bonnet and blacked the tyre walls....

Then I started the car to drive the few feet back to the garage. Well, I tried to. Didn't start.
Not enough life in the battery.
So, now it is on charge, on the drive!!

Then, Caroline tells me that I left the sat-nav on for a couple of days, but forgot to mention it. She did unplug the unit.
I normally unplug the USB adapter. So no surprise really,

I replaced mine with a meatier battery, it had the same footprint but was slightly taller, so had to make up a new battery strap, I can check the model if you're interested.

I am replacing batteries in my two Roadsters with Odyssey batteries.
They are excellent and many racers use them.
They cost about double of others, and are difficult to find.
I am not a fan of Banner batteries.

Odessey Extreme batteries are the best

One was in my last Morgan - it lasted 8 years as I had the receipts and I swapped it for another

They seem to list under the heading 075 and generally confirm to the same size. The Banner is 50200 is 242/175/175cm - 58 AMP 450EN CCA (cold crank amps).

https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/types/075/

There is even a duracell one for the bunnies among us.

I do like the gold top.... if I can't have an all red battery then the Duracell will do.

Though relating to my 4/4; I have just replaced my 8 year old Odyssey PC925, like for like.
The old one was just starting to show signs of age and I didn’t want to risk problems, with a trip to France pending.

Fantastic service from Battery Megastore.

Went down to Halfords to pick up a new battery.

Their "choose a battery" software on the website had directed me to this: Yuasa HSB075 Silver 12V Car Battery 5 Year Guarantee
620A CCA.
£71.00 and in stock.

Yusa have a good reputation, particularly in Motorbikes, where they can face challenging conditions. The website said it was in stock so I reserved on line. A couple of hours later I got a text to say it was ready for collection, so I went down and collected it. It took me about 15 mins to fit and they took the old Banner one away for disposal.

Once I'd disconnected the Banner one, now almost 6 years old, it was clear that there was electrolyte weeping slightly round the terminal posts.
Resting voltage was 11.3v, as shown on the voltmeter display.

The new battery fitted perfectly, the resting voltage is 12.6v.
The only problem is that the terminals for the battery conditioner (Optimate) don't fit, I'll have to make up new ones.

Job done, and only £71.00.

Useful to have 4 terminals on the Banner , easier to put trickle charger terminals on or turn battery for other cars .

/naughty stereotypical joke about the efficiency of the German manufacturing machine mode on

They could have put it as an entry in their SAP system, then alarm bells would have rung out across several factories as they missed a target?

But they did load it into "Mercedes Me" app on my phone on Sunday, so it was a virtual delivery!

Car due at the dealer tomorrow, handover on Thursday.

I fitted the new battery.
After not using the car for a week it started instantly, the voltage was showing 12.6v.
The old Banner battery struggled after 3 days and after 5 it wouldn't turn the engine over.

The Yusa has a 5 year warranty. Time will tell...

Both the S2 and the Coupe now fitted with the Yuasa and starting properly again.

The S2 had the tick-tick game playing so I gave the connection point a good scritch as well and this sorted it.
