Indeed, Paris is hurt and with it the rest of the World. It seems nobody is hurt. We can only hope it stays that way and that brave people could secure some of the works of art.
It is a sad day.

I remember fondly a visit with my wife some 20 years ago - I’m really sad about this - commiserations to France

+1. Very sad indeed but the stone structure looks sound.
We also did the full tour maybe 20 years ago.

Big shock for France and all who visit Paris , its an icon obviously , imagine if this happened to Westminster Abbey , dreadful thought , all Gothic experts will be engaged there for some time !

Very sad to see the images of the fire last night on TV, it will take many years to rebuild

I suspect some subbies forging his 'hot work permit', dated the 15th.... today !!

From the look of the Reuters photos of the interior it could have been a hell of a lot worse.

There have apparently been several arson attacks on RC churches in France recently. Hopefully this wasn't some arsonist in action

A Very Sad Day for France and for the world, as is the case when disaster strikes any of the established Icons of our past.

The tears of a nation would have been insufficient to put out such an intensive Blaze.

My lasting memory, during a school trip there, was being in the bell tower, all gathered under the massive bell, while our guide, a little old lady, struck the rim of the bell with a giant ring spanner and proceeded to run around the edge dragging the spanner along to extend the ringing.

Hopefully the same dedication that produced its beauty it will be applied to its eventual restoration.

Frank.
