Does any TalkMorgan person have experience of fitting a lift to allow cars to be double stacked, im running out of space and only way is UP!

3 plus 4's and a Morgan 3 wheeler!

Im thinking a 2 post pillar lift but my headroom is 2.2 metres, I can fit 2 cars on top of each other with screens folded down.

storage is a problem! for 4 cars in a 3 car long garage!

Hi Rob,
I have a four post lift that I sometimes use for double stacking storage. If it's a cable operated lift you don't want to leave a vehicle on the lift without the lift being on it's safety stops. As you are limited for height you need to check that these stops are in a convenient position for you.
Other things to think about are, oil leakage from the top car. Catch trays may not be so easy on a two poster. Will you be able to get in and out of the bottom car with one above it? Depending on the width of your garage, sometimes the posts of a two poster can limit the opening of the doors.
Go for it, any lift is better than the one you have not got.
Cheers,
John.

Hi Rob,
I had a Bendpak 2 post car lift installed in January. It is a superb piece of kit but totally unsuitable to use as a parking lift as would be any other 2 posters, they are not designed for that purpose.
As you already know headroom is your problem and with only 2.2 metres any commercially available parking lift will probably not work.
This one looks like the posts themselves are longer than 2 metres.

If you garage is 3 cars long you could have a stack bespoke made and ramps to get to the upper level, it could be made as wide as the garage and double up as a service lift.
Just a thought, can you raise the roof? (don't mean on a Friday night at the local smile )

As advised 2 post lifts are for maintenance, you need a lift that has the upper cars tyres on a steel surface so as not to damage the suspension with everything hanging down. In saying that some parking lifts are two post but with a steel surface to park on.

Therefore you need a parking lift and one that has safety stops where you require them due to tight height restrictions. i think Stronman would modify one of their lifts fo that application.

A car lift works by lifting the car above the safety stop, then drops down the lift to the safety stopstop.

Worth talking to Strongmman Tools as linked and parking lifts have built in drip trays.

You must allow at around 150mm to 200mm for the thickness of the upper deck.

Or get rid of a car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 4 pod lift. I park a PUMA underneath and my MOG above. You need a minimum of 2.75m.

I thought the headroom was somewhat on the too tight side.

Possible maybe if the garage is timber to get some farm jacks in or accroprops and lift the garage say 600mm and insert a number of fence posts say 75mm x 75mm to make up the gap.

Laying say blocks you would have to leave the garage suspended for a few days to allow the mortar to set.
