Has anyone experienced and Identified the source of a "chirp" on cold start up of a 1600 Sigma? The source is definitely engine related but doesn't appear to be at crankshaft speed and it continues for the first half mile or so of the journey. All other functions are normal and it only happens when the engine is cold.

I have had that. I thought it might be the water pump but it was just the belt. A tiny spray of wd40 on it cured it but I believe wd is bad for the rubber so there must be something better. Very occasionally it returns but as you say only for a short while.

You can get belt dressing spray which helps, and won't damage the rubber of the belt. Other brands/prices are available.

If you have a local Toolstation

https://www.toolstation.com/v-belt-spray/p25485

I did use it on my +8, although the belt is currently keeping quiet

My plus8 had the chirruping from the belt that was a known idiosyncrasy.
Heard it on the test drive and the dealer sorted it. It returned after a while. I took the belt off ( it looked new) cleaned the pulleys by wiping with a rag with brake cleaner on it, The chirruping has gone and not returned.
There is detail on the problem in Gomog and suggests using a slightly narrower belt ( as I remember).

Yes they recommend the 6 vee instead of the standard 7PK-1025 Gates belt. I'm happier with the wider belt it only squeaks when it's dry so not really an issue and a bit of candle wax fixes it.

That you for all the responses.

It was a squeaky belt so an easy fix!

Max5, many years ago a proper old school mechanic told me he used Rosin on squeaky belts (Violin players rub it on the Bow)
