Blimey, be hard to find another at that mileage but no way worth that. You see classics with unrealistic figures but never seem to find out what they actually get sold for. At that price I doubt it'll go anywhere.

Good luck if some idiot pays that money but it's still only a Mini which were badly built at the time and if memory serves were good fun but very, very basic cars.

Here for a good time not a long time!!

They were basic Reg, but compared to what else was on offer at the time were really ground breaking. Handling was outstanding and they were roomy given the size, mostly due to the flat floorpan. I dont think the build quality was any worse than others and better than some of the awful European cars around. Anything French or Italian rusted in minutes, minis took a little longer. They were indeed good fun and in my view an icon. Downton tuned adds a lot to its value but not that much!

True, but it is a car with exceptional history and provenance.

I'm not saying that it's worth the asking price, but it's not just any old Mini Cooper either.

With the perspective of many other over priced motoring investments on the market it still seems a bit OTT. They might just find a buyer from the period that is rich enough and wants to bring a spark of their youth back to life with it. I would not blame them. I keep looking at Dolomite Sprints (and gravel traps) for the same reason.

Just time to burn a little more petrol before dinner.

If the provenance is true then it could be classed as a fairly important Mini, Downton (they spell it wrong) tuned engines are sought after but you have to be very careful as repro badges are available, I would put it's value at about half what they are asking

They are an absolute hoot to drive around some twisty backroads & I love my '67 Mk1 Cooper, but regular 'tinkering' and good mechanical knowledge is required

Steve, I had a 1960 Mini in 1966 ( I think ) and it was a total shed however it didn't help that it was an ex Met Police car so did 50 mpg of oil! It had a built in extra of a smoke screen as you pulled away from the lights.
By contrast, my next car was a fabulous Fiat 850S, no rust there.
