Hello all,

My car, 1979 4/4 Ford crossflow is currently in a thousand pieces hence why I am unable to take the measurement I require;

Could some kind sole 'please' measure the clearance from the top of the carb plenum casting to the underside of the bonnet.

Thanks in advance.

Is your car a 2 seater or a 4 seater?

Can offer a measurement from a 1971 4/4 2 seater but this will be from the top carb flange as I run a K&N filter

Thanks for the reply.
The car is a 4 seater but I doubt there is any difference.

I'm not so sure, the scuttle on a 4 seater is quite a bit higher and I would think the bonnet line is as well?

A 4-seater has enough room for a battery under the bonnet, which a 2-seater doesn't, so definitely more clearance.

I'm not sure how you measure it though?

By resting my rule on the part of the carb marked on the first picture and observing from the other side, the tape stretched to just over 5 1/8". Plus the 2 7/8" of the case that makes the clearance a whisker over 8".

Thanks, Arwyn but it's nothing I've done, as far as I'm aware it's exactly as it left the factory.

The 4/4 "Competition" model was fitted with twin Webers and I think by 1979 the standard version was no longer offered, so I'm assuming the OP's car is the same.

Gentlemen, thank you for your replies and taking the time to help, very informative. The internal photo with the bonnet down is particularly helpful.

By sheer coincidence I have a Conversion and Tuning twin dcoe manifold in the cupboard although it is the longer one.

Regards.
John.

Ian I though most of the competition models had the twin choke downdraught Weber, not twin side draught Webers. Obviously yours is the better option! It also seems that the short manifold and inlet trumpets allow the carbs to fit inside the cowling without the need for a cutout. Do you know the origins of this set-up i.e. the manifold and trumpets? I would be very interested in sourcing one for my 68 4/4. Kerry
