Is it just me or are those very slow gear changes the driver is making?

Given the availability of spares and length of time spent warming the engine I am going to guess he is warming the clunky box prior to it being ready for any more assertive engagement?

Lovely clip. Wicked car. From the days when aerodynamics meant rounding off the corners and looking at it from funny angles whilst sucking air through your teeth.

Just time to burn a little more petrol before dinner.

For me as a spotty sixteen year old, the 917 emerging in 1969 was like seeing a UFO.

The shape is astonishing, and when you see the tubed frame, the braveness of the likes of Siffert and Rodriguez and the other 917 tamers is beyond belief.

They were my heroes, way beyond the drivers we see today in their safety cells.

Yeah times have changed.
