For those who might be interested in the story behind the gallery pic of Morgan and McLaren F1 meeting

Apparently the F1 suffered an engine bay fire in the US and was returned to the UK for repairs, and once the repairs had been completed the American owner was contacted to finalise delivery arrangements. The owner decided he wanted to tour a bit of the UK in the car and that is how we came to meet up in Ft William, a warning light had appeared, McLaren contacted and a technician flew up to Inverness airport hired a car and rendezvoused at Ft William to plug up to the F1 and resolve the issue... I questioned the tec in that I thought the F1 was the first if not one of the first to have an on board modem to facilitate connection to the factory via the telephone network to then allow fault diagnosis and possible up date or fault re-set procedures, but it seems there were thought to be security risks in the process..

All systems go we headed South, next stop Oban, as spotted by the eagle eyed of this parish.. I grabbed a few pics in the car park of the hotel where we stayed for the night. While in the lounge the windows of which looked out over the car park, we could hear a small number of young folk, perhaps six or so,who were a wedding group through in the bar celebrating the occasion, they ventured out into the car park to take pics while standing beside the Morgan which was sitting with it`s tonneau cover in place... I headed out to the car park, when they saw me coming they looked a tad sheepish, but I peeled back the tonneau and invited the bride and groom to sit in the Mog to have their pics taken, the whole party were delighted. I pointed over to the F1 informing of it`s rarity and very high value.. they showed little to no interest and finished their photo session with the Mog and headed back into the hotel... As out American cousins might say.... Go figure As for the EXPENSIVEcompany in the pic... I think the Cal Mac ferry wins on that description.. smile

Seems to me the new quality when they saw it.

An interesting story of the Macca there - this would have cost him a pretty penny getting that lot sorted I imagine.

Nice bit of sharing the Morgan love around with those that appreciate real quality values.

Nice one - you might have initiated a new owner (eventually) by such action thumbs

Richard I suspect it may have cost McLaren a pretty penny, the pic was taken when it was a new car and the chap was the first owner, his travelling companion was his lawyer who was a petrol head, and collected Ferrari cars, easier to ask which model he did not have than those which he had already in his collection...Very nice guys they were too.

Graham, much to my regret I did not grab a pic of the bride and groom myself. I have done much the same thing on a number of occasions. Once in Spain sitting in a café I saw a dad with his two kids looking at the car again they stood back as I got up and walked towards them, and were likewise delighted when I encouraged them to climb in and take their photographs smiles all round... smile

That's good to hear George that the car was a warranty job I was imagining squillions having to be paid out.
It's nice they were friendly guys, we have a Ferrari owning supercar collector in a nearby village and he is a nice character and a real knowledgeable petrol head and we stop and have a chat every now and again.

Most of the other visiting supercar drivers we meet on the road here are scared witless on our lanes and they don't look the sort you would chose to chat with grin2.
