Mandello del Lario
Lovely day in Northern Italy today and at 9:00 this morning I headed off to the Monza Historic at the Autodromo di Monza. This is an event that is held every two years.

As I came up the ramp from my garage I found a red Morgan with Belgian plates right in front of me. Turns out that the 4S Morgan Drivers club had organised a run which was stopping in Mandello del Lario for a morning break. Much to my annoyance I knew nothing about it.

A few minutes later as I headed towards Monza I encountered the main group who were all waving, as I was, they probably thought I was part of the group and was going the wrong way.

At Monza there were two SLR Morgans, the polished aluminium and the red one, plus a pair of racing Morgans, one a low line. They were entered in the 2 hour Sixties Endurance event that started at 5 pm but unfortunately the red SLR withdrew before the race because it had an oil leak. I waited till the start and then watched a few laps but could not wait till the finish. It seems it was not a good day for the SLRs as after a few laps (I think about 5 laps) the silver car disappeared. No idea why. The other two Morgans seemed to be going quite well. One finished 25th and the other 31st. I'm not sure where that put them in their class but they were certainly well up there. The outright leaders were all Shelby Cobras.

I'll try and get some photos up tomorrow.

Some fantastic photos there, I know very little about the SLR, from what I've read they were not built in the Morgan factory.
I think Morgan could do a lot worse than introduce a similar looking car using a bonded aluminium chassis and the drivetrain that's fitted to the plus six. If I had the money I would buy one !!! Way nicer than an E type.

I agree. It would have made a nice Plus 4 Plus back in the day too.
