The Splinter Group finally managed to visit the museum at Scampton today, although we ended up arriving in Kevs van.....a long story best kept for a long night at the bar.

I didn't take any pics, but found that I do fit perfectly into a Hawk Trainer. Whereas Kev has his knees under his chin. Plus the fact that he's not as slim of hip as I am.
My highlight was an F4 Phantom in Luftwaffe trim. My favourite jet as a child, and still looking good at sixty years old. Especially compared to 1960s cars and railway locomotives...
The folding wingtip mechanism was visible and looks like a small crown wheel and pinion with eight locking bolts. And no sign of metal fatigue!

Very much Dambuster themed, and still home to the Red Arrows, it's worth a trip. The Arrows were on leave this week.

After ....we took lunch at the Dambusters Inn, which is equally interesting.

A grand day out.

I've brought my 92yr old dad over to our place this morning so that we can have a look through the photo's and have a catch up. He was over in Germany in '46 as a young recruit volunteer in the Royal Signals, and has a pair of 10x8 black and white photo's of the Mohne dam. Such an emotive day yesterday, and so humbling to actually be there and listen/read the stories, but it was nice to ease the emotion with a bit of fun before we left.

Here's the Red's latest recruit..

You can see the emotion on Kev's face in a similar photo, where he's puffing his cheeks out and thinking...or he's got his cycle clips caught on something...

Kev was a square leg in a round hole. Yes I said leg.

Whereas I fitted like a glove. Obviously you need to be slim of hip and short of leg to be a Hawk pilot.

Kev is neither....Haha.

I fitted that way better than the Aero I test drove, and it was as spacious.......😊
