I have idly thought that the sloping number plate was an odd design element on the front of my Morgan and so decided to fit a Librands badge bar and re-position the number plate using their brackets. The badge bar went on without much trouble, the holes were more or less in the right position but the brackets did not hang correctly. Rather than start bending the brackets I drilled new holes and raised the number plate box by about 10mm. It now sits just right for my way of thinking making the front just a little more purposeful (not that it needs much help in that area) and conceals the brackets which were otherwise visible.

Here I'm modelling my badge bar with the Morgan 100 years badge peeping over the bar. I will be making up a small bar to elevate this and probably set it in the middle and move the 4 seater badge to the right. That means another badge to the left in order create balance.

The number plate brackets are an additional £25 and are a pair of bent pieces of stainless bar with, in my view, incorrectly positioned holes.
My next job, after B&C have fixed the electrical gremlins, is to tackle the lights. I plan to drive at night and last evening found the lights not as effective as I would like. Osram Nightbreakers are on the way and maybe a foray into LED bulbs for the wing lights, fogs, reversing lights and maybe sidelights, I believe they are not legal at present.

The Wipac headlight units used by Morgan are dreadful. I think that Wipac developed the "Black Hole"! While Nightbreakers will give a slight improvement the fundamental problem is with the beam pattern. Cibie H180's plus Nightbreakers or similar bulbs provide much better lighting.
However I.I.R.C. someone is marketing LED headlights for Morgans although they may not be compatible with the later electronics.

Hi Max, thanks for this information. I see that these units are not that expensive. I have also seen these recommended on the forum:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pair-of-ARV6-style-7-LED-Head-lights-lamps-Morgan-plus-4-8-4-4-super-sport-LHD/382437812145?hash=item590b11e7b1:g:SI0AAOSwXrBa1PKd

Im not convinced about the LED semi circle look for Morgans so like the idea of the Cibie units, I'll cogitate, thanks again - I'm new to all this.

I put the Nightbreakers in my Mog and found a slight improvement. Nothing spectacular but better than the H4 candles!
I would consider LED upgrades but there appears to be confusion about the legality of the upgrade kits. On Pistonheads there is a lot of confusing opinions with people quoting regs that seem to contradict each other.
Nobody seems to come up with a clear definitive Yes or No.
Is there any data re lumen output for various lights?
Cibie versus Lucas etc?

I agree it seems that the understanding of what is legal is poor. As I see it until I see a definitive OK for LED headlight bulbs I will continue with high performance regular bulbs. I ordered the Cibie H180s and will report on how I get on. I’m a bit precious about nighttime driving and want the best performing lights I can get while remaining legal.
Thanks for the input, Kevin

For anyone looking to upgrade their lights there is loads of info on the Defender2 forum. Whilst there, it would also be worth having a look at the Landreizeigar loom (and equivalents) designed to ensure that the headlights get the correct voltage, whilst protecting the switch gear to boot.

MAX5 - I have Cibie H180's plus Nightbreakers with matching spots. Had them for years.

Very good.

There is something slightly stronger than the Osram Nightbreakers: the Philips Racing Vision. Supposed to be the strongest halogen bulb on the market. I have got them in my Mog, they are fairly good. The downside is that they have a limited life span, 185 hours. But as the Mog is something I drive only now and then. I thought I would give it a try. Where I live you can also get H4 LEDs as a direct replacement, might try them next time.

Well, Deejay, I would not put in anything that is not street legal. And as for light intensity, there are already myriads of cars that are using HID, Xenon or LEDs, so I do not think one Morgan more or less would make much difference. You need to see, and to be seen. Over here there is no limititations concerning bulb type or intensity, provided they are correctly adjusted. They have to be aprroved by the authorities, though. Works ok, I am not much bothered by incoming lights. Of course I take care not to stare directly into the other car's headlights.
