Packing up at the NEC yesterday and putting the hood up I noticed two tears on the seams of my Everflex hood. I had just bought some Renovo stuff to seal the stitching as there had been various drips through a few seams. Copious applications of Gorilla tape (always in the toolkit) got me home & dry and will do as a temporary lash-up - but I think that come Spring I shall get a new hood (birthday in March seems like a good excuse). Now the question comes - do I replace with Everflex or mohair (or anything else) and does anyone know of a good place to go - preferably within travelling distance of Derby as I would probably have to leave the Mog with them. Being of Yorkshire persuasion, I want a good job doing but not at extortionate rate. All advice welcome. The hood is Trad 9 stud fixing on a 2010 4/4 sport & I do not want to convert to easy-up. All comments/advice welcome.

I’ve heard very good things about the trimmer at Allon White

I used Allon Whites & stayed with everflex. Check the website as they have their usual deal to drop labour costs from now till March. Hence my Avitar of car plus new roof & the beast from the east.

I would try Covers and Canvas at Tarporley Cheshire, you could probably leave the original hood with Nick and he would make an exact copy in your choice of material.

I know it may appear a distance away but it’s only about an hour from Derby CW69NH.

I had a new zip put in my tourno last month and a new rear window in my hood.

I would recommend him 07402041165

Shaun at Allon White persuaded me to stay with Everflex when we had the easy-up conversion done on our old car. He cited ease of keeping it clean among other things.

Another vote for Allon White.

You may be able to get them to make the hood and then fit it to the car in a day if you ask nicely - worth an ask. If they will do this, book it in when their courtesy car is available. AW are in east reach of both Bletchley Park and The Shuttleworth Collection.

I've always had everflex hoods until the mohair one on my current 4/4 which is the best hood I've had, being extremely easy to put up and down.

It might be worth contacting some of the dealerships - BHM and Williams spring to mind, as I know both have had s/h everflex hoods for sale which would be a saving on the cost of a new one. I replaced the everflex hood on my black 1992 4/4 with two s/h ones over the course of ownership and the fit was fine.

Admittedly it was 5 or 6 years ago, but the factory fitted my new hood.
I booked it through my local dealer (Berrybrook)
Fitted in a day, excellent work and competitively priced. (Also, a free tour included in the price)

I was tempted by Allon White’s, but the far easier journey from my home to the factory, proved the decider.
