Yikes! Wouldn't want to hit that! Always think - whenever I drive it - that stretch would make the most fantastic hill climb course (closed off to traffic of course). Stray deer might be an issue though. Hard to tell from that shot - was that a red deer or a roe? Looked quite a big 'un.

Here in Virginia they are quite common. A few years ago we hit a deer with a Dodge van(people carrier). The deer walked away ...I had to replace the wing, bonnet and grill assembly and straighten out the underlying framework.

A few years ago one of our staff hit a deer and his car was a write-off. 4 days later he hit one again, result another write-off. Luckily he wasn't injured, not sure what happened to the deer though. He lives in a wooded area in the north of Belgium.
The first car was well insured, the second was a replacement from the insurance company.

That rings a bell a mate had a +8 lived in Bed -ton N/umberland and was working in power stations around the UK . He was using his Citroen . While travelling up into Scotland one jumped a fence and ran across the road Mick swerved to miss it smashed his way through the fence .
Oddly he was looking about in his small town went into a garage and there was his right off ready to be put back on the road . He spoke up about it and they threatened him . He was out in a split second . That's a few years ago.

Graham, to embed a video you have to use the exact format specified, i.e. the full YouTube URL with http: (not https:). It's an art but you'll get the hang of it!

I often see deer crossing when I drive over the South Downs. You need to make sure you are ready to hit the brakes as soon as you see one, no matter how far ahead it is. 90% of the time there will be another one following.

We have a bit of a problem with Muntjac deer which are about the size of a large dog and very well built. They look very nice strolling through our garden but out on the road they are a real pain!

Here for a good time not a long time!!

I hit a big dead dear on the A1 once, I was going about 70+ at night and it just appeared out of the dark in the carriageway, before I could do anything BANG ! Cripes it was scary. After we landed, I performed a low speed handling check and all seemed well. At the next stop I could see it had ripped off half the front bumper , the splash guards around a wheel arch and pulled the rear bumper off its mount. Hyundai Coupe, not a mog thankfully !

Near here we have Woburn Deer Park which, as many may know, has a public road running through it. Speed limit is a very wise 30mph but care is still needed to anticipate when nearby deer want to cross the road. One day all suited-up and driving on business, through the driving rain I saw a Muntjac shaping up to cross the road, which it did safely then - as I accelerated from stationary - the damn thing shot back across the road again. I hit it fair and square - double bump as the wheels went over it. As the weather was so bad and I was on the way to an important appointment I didn't feel inclined to get out the car and drag the corpse away, So a few minutes later I stopped at a phone box (remember them?) to call the law - "Do I need to report that I have just hit a deer and its corpse in lying in the road at location X?". "I dunno mate; it's not important." (Really?) "OK, well you now have the knowledge...". As I returned to the car I saw the front number plate was missing. Honestly, talk about leaving evidence at the scene! But no more was heard.
