Just seen a couple of photos on TV. A massive room. All his own work, too, apparently.

Management has just been going through the pictures of this on the Daily Fail web site. It does look fantastic. If its all his own work then it is very impressive.

Even if he employed some professional model makers to help it's bloody impressive. There are a few music stars who are into model railways - Neil Young, Roger Daltry, Pete Waterman, Frank Sinatra etc. Apparently Sinatra's layout is still fully operational.

With these big layouts I always wonder how they clean the track when it starts to tarnish ? Back in the day it was an abrasive rubber you dragged along the track but you cant get around something like that using that method ?

You can get a freight car with an electric rotating cleaning mop/disc.

I have reason to believe that Maggie may have helped him.

Oh here we go.......
First cut is the deepest.....
But rail tarnishing is a problem. Now I have a grandson I need to get on with finishing my layout.
And still loads of ballasting to do. The most boring part of railway modelling.....

Rod was on the radio lunch time talking about it. He did build it all himself but had help with the electrical installation which is very sensible. He was saying that to get a fully authentic feel, there is even rubbish in the streets. A real master work, a big move from the days when I saw him in Dartford with the Jeff Beck Group.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg

I always love finding out that a celebrity has a hobby completely different to what they are famous for. This is the best one since I discovered James Hunt bred budgies.
