As promised on daveW's thread about his experiences with the AR Motorsport package, below are my results of a Librands manifold etc!

I had a Librands Sports Manifold fitted earlier in the year to replace the standard item in the hope of improving drivability. This did improve things and gave me a small increase in power, but things were still not as smooth as I would have liked.

A comment on DaveW’s thread about a sport remap for a GDi made me ring the factory, the individual I spoke to stated that I could have the ClubSport map applied to my car, I did query the fact that I don’t have the AR Motorsport exhaust but this wasn’t an issue according to the engineer. I was advised to book the car in with my dealer to have the ECU removed and posted. The flash can be performed at the factory if you are visiting.

Keith at BHM kindly showed me how to remove the ECU from a GDi car, I then proceeded to remove and post the ECU to Malvern, it was returned within 2 days and reinstalled, first impressions were positive with plenty of response and hesitancy removed.

The figures speak for themselves:

Standard Map + Librands Manifold
162BHP @ 6020RPM (113MPH) 151 Lb/ft Torque @ 4346RPM
The engineer doing the power run was very unimpressed with Morgan’s standard map above 4000RPM.

Clubsport Map + Librands Manifold
191BHP @ 6633RPM (124MPH) 163 Lb/ft Torque @ 4479RPM
The engineer doing the power run was very surprised at these figures, saying that this was one of, if not the greatest improvement from standard on a NA engine he had seen.

I was also shocked that my car had matched and exceeded the output of the standard Clubsport car.

The figures back what I felt on the road, the car flies above 3500RPM and pulls strongly to the rev limiter, the throttle action is also more positive, the car will happily pull away in 4th gear at 10MPH.

As a pleasant side effect MPG has gone up from 22 – 24 to around 30.

The best upgrade I have done so far!

Note:- Both runs were completed with Esso Supreme Unleaded 97RON with all tyres at 26PSI if anyone is interested smile

That's very impressive. No wonder it feels smoother and goes much better - the original power and torque curves after 4500rpm are pretty dire. No wonder people say it transforms the car - if I had a plus4 GDi I know what i'd be doing...………...

Interesting observation on the new power curve (or at least it was for me).

Your peak power was 191.2 bhp at 6633 rpm however the power curve was still going up quite sharply.

Why the 6633rpm cut off?

Was it a self imposed rev limit?

Very impressive given a good torque spread as well.

6630 is the fuel cut off on the engine, the new map increased the rev limit by 500 rpm,

Well done, and thanks for taking the time and trouble to get this documented.

I did say that over 3000 revs my GDI doesn't give much away to my S1 Roadster, and this shows why!

So.........a must do upgrade and the flash isn't expensive either.

I would love to see what would happen if you raised the rev limit a bit further, as long as I don't have to pay for the broken engine.

I totally understand where you were coming from Dave with your comments, the way the car performs above 3500 is very suprising, its a completely different car

It certainly is a good value upgrade, particularly if you are willing to take the ECU out yourself. From some extremely rough calculations I think 200 bhp would be possible at 7200RPM, but I doubt the crankshaft or valves would be happy with that!

I was hoping to have got around 175BHP so to get what I have is fantastic, which begs the question, what does the clubsport\works edition actually develop with the AR exhaust?

So I have not been overegging myself with my impressions.your findings re driveability mirror my own. I have the AR manifold and exhaust and experience that same rapid and fluid pick up being very noticeable from just under two thousand rpm. The car has three thousand klms so should start to free up soon.

Certainly and excellent result-

It is well known that you will get different results on different dynamometers. The only way to get a true comparison would be to run the two cars on the same machine under the same atmospheric, and other, conditions.

Any Idea what happens to your insurance premium if you undertake this upgrade? I have a Librands sports exhaust and manifold plus an ECU flash on my 2011 Plus 4 and it cost me nothing , this sounds like a step further to me .
