An hour ago a landslide carried away a section of Autostrada viaduct. By a miracle it seems no one was on that section of viaduct at the moment of the collapse. Still to be verified by emergency services who are on the scene.

Global warming is apparent, but have any of this learned community seen that the earth's spin access is changing, causing a shift in the north pole. Apparently it is moving southeast due to the amount of weight being accumulated in India, due their water distribution. China is also being pointed at for the amount of concrete that has been poured in the last decade.Exactly how fast this shift/wobble is subject to debate. I have not seen anything mentioned in the press, but i wonder how much this is beginning to shift weather patterns, causing local weather to be somewhat different.

Ice pack - no and perhaps you should realise that the earths magnetic poles shift around of their own accord altering the spin hence magnetic north is not at the geographic pole. I suspect this bit about concrete and water is - to quote the naysayer in chief— fake news!!!!

Robbie, I am an ex Airline pilot, so have knowledge of those sort of things, had to pass some exams at one time. It is the actual spin axis of the earth that apparently is changing. My info came from a national geographic program. Just wondered if anyone else had seen/read anything.

Yes I have done that and have found references, but different info. eg drought rather than water catchment etc. & very little on projections. 17 cm a year is all i could find with just a quick search. Certainly any significant shift(what is significant?) of the axis will definitely cause interesting catastrophic changes to climatology.

It seems to have been confirmed that miraculously there are no victims of the collapse of the viaduct. It should be stressed that unlike the collapse of the bridge in Genoa this collapse was not due to structural defects and poor maintenance but due to a huge section of the mountain sliding down and crashing into the pylons.

Below is a link to a news item that gives some details of the close escape from tragedy. Some of the Google translation is a bit weird but you can understand it. The person referred to as a "vigilante" would be a security guard or a security patrol person. At one point it says "people or means", it should read "people or vehicles". In another it says "my husband he is my son", it should read "my husband and my son" smile
