Thanks everyone for such lovely comments. This forum is great with so many nice people.

Yes Kip had a great life from the day he was born until the day he died a couple of days after his 13th birthday. He shared his birthday with my son which was always nice. A friend of my dads used to say Life if for Enjoyment and my dad thought it sounded odd as dad always thought working hard is the right thing to do. I am sure Kip the cat would agree with dads friend, everything he did was just for his own enjoyment. I should learn something from him.

Ray I agree having the power of life and death over another creature is horrible. At least I can say I put his life ahead of any financial decisions and only thought about his well being.

It’s not easy Chris as you get so attached to them.

I was never a cat person until I got married and our first cat found us as a stray. A long fur tortoiseshell who sensed that I was not a feline lover but soon changed that perception very quickly. We have had five cats now in succession all with their own special character. We had to put our last one to sleep a couple of months ago due to kidney failure and it was very emotional for my wife and myself to say goodbye, but it was the kindest thing to do and have fond memories of her.
We will get another cat soon from a rescue centre near us.
ATB, Paul.

I know how you feel. It is kinder to put them out of their misery, though, even if it is a terribly hard decision. We lost a cat on the A66 when we were moving back north. In a full harness he escaped when we let him out for a pee. To me that is worse, as we didn't know what happened to him. Genuine commiserations to you and your family.

Best Regards

Been there too often myself, my last two were diagnosed as having chronic kidney disease. I managed to keep them with me
for two years after the diagnosis in each case, every day bracing myself for the inevitable decision I knew awaited me. A tearful adieu to my last one this past September,
18+ yr. Franklin. (photo: Franky trying to have a catnap as a 3yr. old)

Getting another is the only remedy I can suggest for your pain Chris,,, [Linked Image]

I'm sorry for your loss, he looked a lovely boy. I hope you eventually feel able to get another like I did as the photo shows.

Sorry to learn of your loss. We know what it feels like. The pain we feel when they go is part of the price we pay for having them in our lives.

That is a cute kitten. Is he/she a Bengal? The dark M above the eyes and the matching two stripes on each side of the face, plus the tail looks very much like a Bengal kitten but the fur is longer than Kip at that age.

My wife says I should not get another Bengal and go for something completely different, she keeps looking at websites for breeders. Other people say get a rescue kitten which she gets grumpy about saying we need something properly breed. Not sure I agree with her though, as a kid I had five rescue type cats all nice. Since getting married we had had three cats, all expensive breeds and two have been pretty boring to own, very standoffish and not wanting to play at all. Sort of like Teenage boys who hide in their bedroom and only come out when hungry. Unfortunately I doubt I will convince her going to a rescue centre means finding a cat that chooses you rather than picking one from photos on the internet.

Oh dear ,I fully understand how you and your family are feeling having had animals all my life and cherish the memory of every one of them, they enrich our lives. We have a Bengal right now , they are the most fantastic cats and so it made your post even more poignant.

Treasure those memories
