Having been fortunate enough to view this spectacle several years ago I found the second image truly shocking.

If only it were that simple, from the article "But the worst drought in a century has slowed the waterfalls to a trickle, fuelling fears that climate change could kill one of the region’s biggest tourist attractions.
While they typically slow down during the dry season, officials said this year had brought an unprecedented decline in water levels."

Southern Africa has had odd weather for the last 4-5 years. The droughts have hit the Cape & the area around J'bourg.

I don't know if the rest of you have been glued to Attenborough's latest series, Seven worlds, one planet, as we have.

There’s been (as always with Attenborough) some truly astonishing footage. The one I enjoyed most was the horned viper in the Iranian desert that uses it’s tail to fool birds that it’s a spider. It made me jump right out of my chair.

As you imply in the thread title, Richard, behind it all he delivers a consistently alarming message about the rate at which we are destroying the planet. I know Attenborough has been criticized by the likes of George Mobiot for pulling his punches on the environmental arguments, but I think he gets the balance about right. Many people are fed up with being hectored, but may be receptive to Attenborough’s nuanced approach.

Absolutely glued to it Giles and as you say for a lot of us he has the perfect balance of education without preaching to you, you have to be made of stone not to be challenged when he does his retrospective looks and you realise how much damage has been wreaked in his lifetime alone. A quite extraordinary talent at work, we are fortunate to have him open our eyes for us.

Horrendous , i was fortunate to live in South Africa from 1983 to 2000, in that time i visited Vic Falls many times, for those that are interested, above the falls there are the remains of the old Sunderland Flying Boat mooring stations when that was the mode of transport down through Africa, the locals called The Falls The Smoke That Thunders Yes there were allways seasonal fluctuations in flow but this is shocking beyond belief, no more smoke and i think you could hear a pin drop there.

China now burns more coal than the rest of the world combined. A fairly shocking statistic that is never reported.

I think the weather must be changing based on those spectacular pictures of the Victoria falls compared with the amount of rain that the UK has had over the last couple of . The water levels in the Broads ( which are very well managed ) have been very high for weeks.

Here for a good time not a long time!!

What a fascinating sight it must have been to see Sunderland's moored above the falls, I'd never heard about that.
