Got the job of organising the club's annual 4 day trip and they have chosen yorkshire with a base in Skipton. So with one day getting there and one day getting back, that leaves me wih two days to fill with shortish drives either on nice driving roads or to places of interest. Bunch of supercars so single lane / passing place type roads arent really suitable and neither are city centres, but open moorland with no plod insight - thats different! crazy2

Ideas please.

Couple of suggestions Howard

From Skipton, take A65 towards the Lake District. When you get to Kirby Lonsdale, turn right at “Devils Bridge” . (Normally loads of bikes and interesting cars at the tea hut). Follow this road to Sedburgh. (This can be a bit narrow but certainly in a Morgan it’s great, worth sacrificing the speed for the journey if you know what I mean). At Sedbugh follow the signs out to Hawes. As you approach Hawes keep on the A684 towards Leyburn. At Leyburn turn right onto A6108 towards Ripon. Then left on the A61 towards Harrogate. Just outside Harrogate turn right onto the A59 which you can follow all the way back to Skipton

(There are loads of other alternatives around this route but some are a bit bumpy and skinny. For example turn off the A6108 at Masham, and come back through Fearby and Healey, Lofthouse to Pately Bridge and come back on the B6265 through to Skipton. The B 6265 is fine but it’s certainly narrow near Lofthouse...)

Second suggestion

Skipton on A65 to Settle. Out of Settle on the B 6479 through Horton In Ribblesdale, look at the big viaduct, turning right onto B6255 towards Hawes. Then A684 to Aysgarth area, then right onto B6160, through Kettlewell, Kilnsey, Rylestone and back into Skipton. (This is again very scenic but isn’t going to often enable foot to the floor type driving in a super ar)

Third suggestion

A 65 out of Skipton to Long Preston. Left onto B6478 through to Slaidburn. Take a right in Slaidburn on the road to High Bentham. NOTE this might be a bit narrow for your guys, certainly more fun in the Mog than it was in the Aston or 911...). Turn right at High Bentham back towards A65, then right onto A 65 back into Skipton

Final one for now

A 65 out of Skipton towards Otley. Take the B 6451 out of Otley through Fewston. After Fewston cross the A59, towards Pately Bridge. At Summerbridge turn left B 6165 towards Pately Bridge. Come out of Pately Bridge on the B6265 then at Greenhow Hill take a left to Blubberhouses. At Blubberhouses turn right onto A 59 and follow that back into Skipton. (Alternatively keep on the B6265 to Grassington and stay on it back through Threshfield , Rylestone and into Skipton. Or at Grassington turn onto the B6160 through Burnsall, Bolton Abbey and then turn right back on to A59 to Skipton.

Hope this helps, feel free to PM me if you want any more.

All these routes are 100% Morgan friendly. They can suffer a bit from cyclists, particularly the last route as Otley I the self proclaimed cycling capital of the UK. So some care is needed

Word of warning Howard, yorkie plod uses a lot of mobile camera vans particularly on the roads popular with bikers. They are sublime roads though.

Howard, good place to visit en route for comfort stop is The Oil Can Café & IK Classics

Ian the owner is an full on car nut and racer & will have lots of Classics in his workshops, (stuff like a Lambo LP400 last time I went) the café is good & full of car memorabilia & his wife has a retro clothes shop within, for the ladies

Although 'H' is part of the official address it's a couple of miles away in some nice countryside - don't let it put you off
