Whilst I am a long term investor & since retirement do very little trading. I am intrigued by the classic look of the various indices graphs showing pure fear.
Umm good buying opportunity iI guess.

Yes the markets are just plummeting right now, probably worth holding off buying because if it gets to pandemic stage (which I think it will) they'll drop away like leaves in autumn and a good buying opportunity.

It's an interesting hobby on a small scale without risking needed capital and in many ways like Morgan ownership ;-) .

What is always amusing is the predictions for the coming year by so called 'experts' , similar to predicting the weather ! doh

A wise man once said that there are two types of Stock Exchange experts: those that don't know and those that don't know that they don't know.

Years ago when I was a Shift Metallurgist in a steel works a colleague I was working with was in a syndicate who dabbled small sums in stocks. Sometimes at shift changeover he would have figures on the desk with share prices on them. There were 5 in the group and on average they were making about £500+ each a year back in the 1970’s. It was a bit like modern Lottery syndicates and a fun thing. Their “rules of play” were to take gains and they moved profits leaving a base investment to use again.
Years later when in another job we used an Australian chap who developed some quality related software we were looking at. He was also developing stock monitoring software using advanced statistics ( he was a bit of a geek). Again a hobby type thing that he was hoping to make some money on.
Another chap a mate knew was using a database and probability calculations for horse racing. He would only bet on a minimum probability of a win/ place. He had developed a points score system for horses for distance, weight, course, conditions, jockey etc.. he was making some money and not being greedy. Again a hobby type fun thing. Mind you, updating his database with race results was a big committment.

I've never managed to get my head around this concept of having spare money to risk on investing. The way I see it, if you've got money that you don't need then you've either worked too hard or you've not played hard enough, either of which being a cardinal sin! grin2

A few years ago I made a good % return on shares in an AIM-listed company specialising in infection prevention. So I've just bought some more...
