I just received the email from DVSA

Due to the unfolding COVID-19 situation, cars and vans and motorcycles due their MOT from 30 March 2020 will have their MOT extended by 6 months.
This will continue until confirmed otherwise.
This will allow vehicle owners to continue to be able to get to work where this absolutely cannot be done from home or do essential shopping.
Vehicles must be kept in a roadworthy condition and drivers can be prosecuted if they drive an unsafe vehicle.
We have published guidance for garages.

We've also published 2 guides for the public:

It does seem that the bottom line is that if your vehicle MOT expires prior to 30 March and you cannot get one, you should not use the vehicle on the road. If you are able to, you should SORN it, if you are unable to SORN it due to health condition then the police etc are urged to be lenient.

Just got an MOT done on the Mog today at the local garage and when I picked it up they told me that they just had word from VOSA had advised that there was going to be a six month grace period. PS passed with flying colours.

I moved the Mog MOT to the summer having got caught out by bad weather in Feb. I can imagine now I'll have to rethink that if this is still valid by Sept.

Ah. When I saw the topic title I couldn't understand why anyone was bothering about MOTs and suspension, given the current climate.

All is now clear. Good news.
