Young people will find it hard to believe but I remember

When you could go to a friends house & play, have a meal or even a party

When you could go for days out & visit places maybe at the sea side, a country park or a zoo.

When some people had short hair, you could get it cut at a barbers

When you could go away on holiday to far away places, stay in a hotel & eat out in restaurants. You could even visit foreign countries & get there in a plane.

When you could watch a film on a huge screen in a cinema with lots of other people. The film may be a new one you had not seen 5 times already.

When you could go to a music festival & stand with thousand of others in a muddy field & see your favourite artist live.

When you could go to a sports club & play tennis or football with people you may not know.

Stay safe

The Who trashed their instruments for the first time at the Starlight Ballroom Greenford. I saw the Temptations at the White Horse in Acton And Geno Washington. Shoshana Malka lived next door with her exotic name and curves. Rod the Mod (Stewart) sang with Long John Baldry at the Station Hotel in Ealing - Pink Floyd were the support and unappreciated.
I was immortal

I remember when my Dad used to put 4 gallons of petrol in his car and get change from £1.

I remember when you were given a fresh cooked breakfast, (egg on toast, with bacon) when flying on a BEA Viscount to Amsterdam.

Later on, I remember sitting in Hyde Park, watching Canned Heat, at a free concert.

He looked at Mam and she gave him one wife's look and he shut up . The motor stank till we got to a garage for water . Dad did not give a jot .

The taste of Fish and Chips, eaten out of newspaper sitting on a seat at the seaside.

Only 30 mins from home.......................

The Beatles became big and I was admonished for saying "yeah". "The word is 'yes'".

The bar in my hall of residence sold beer for 25p a pint.

There were two channels on our 12" black and white TV, and I wasn't allowed to watch "the other side" because of the ads.

The rag and bone man came along our street regularly with his horse and cart shouting out his call.

The milkman called for payment at the end of the week. The noise and smell when he scooped change from his leather pouch at the level of my nose are vivid memories.

We got rosehip syrup and orange juice on the national health in little glass bottles with cork stoppers.

The greengrocer at the local street market would twirl the brown paper bag with your purchase in it to close it up, and shout "if you don't want the goods don't muck them about" if you tried to check for ripeness.

Packets of crisps came with salt wrapped up in a little sheet of waxed blue paper. Potato flavor only.

You could stand on the passenger seat of your grandparents car with your head and shoulders out of the sun roof as you drove along.

You could drive into London and park on the street.

The toy shop had bare planks for a floor and bikes hanging from the rafters.

Eldely relatives would talk about life before World War One.

You could take the short cut at the end of Downing Street to get to St James' Park.

Cars tasted interesting. I recall chewing on the hand straps in the back of my father's 1950 Triumph Renown--a leather and decaying rubber combo.

Five Bob a pint!! Pretty sure that when I blagged my way into SU bars it was about 1/6d - My Grammar school art room had a pretty good line in fake Student Union cards.

I remember when you could by an icecream for sixpence smile and an icypole for 2 or 3 pence.

A farthing and a ha'penny were in circulation.

It cost 5 d to send a letter

Radar speed traps had not even been dreamed of by revenue hungry bureaucrats.
