Gullwing 1954 -1957
Roadster 1957 - 1963

Yes the lozenge headlights makes her look very „modern“ and cool. The convertible also looks extremely elegant and lavish without the relatively narrow and dome-like roof of the gullwing.

In my opinion the Pagoda was a very elegant car, almost a little bit more fitting for a lady. Compared to the design of most Mercedes of that time, it was unusually aesthetic and delicate.

1963 - 1971, 230, 250, 280SL

But the pagoda is not in the tradition of the Gullwing. The Gullwing was a sports racing car with a grid tube frame. Stirling Moss made this fabulous Mille Miglia time in the 300SLR (open version, 1955 prototype).

The Pagoda is beautiful, but rather a cruiser on proven limousine technology of that time with normal intake manifold injection.
The Gullwing (and its sister, the Roadster) already had a kind of direct fuel injection. Very innovative. And the Gullwing had only 1250 kg at 210 PS and 260 km/h top speed.

Me to, £105k would be the priciest one I have heard of though.

Superb example but the seller is a little optimistic!

Now there is a car I would like, though I suspect you would buy any of the few in NZ for $105k which is currently half that price and no salted roads here.

I would like a Kirkum Cobra replica - with full hand crafted aluminium body, with brushed finish. 😪

This VW Beetle was bought new by my grandparents in 1953. In 1972 my grandfather gave it to my sister (she was his Godchild). I still regret that my father gave it away in 1976. It was a Standard with cable operated brakes instead of hydraulics and it had a small oval rear window.

Seems a lot of fuss over an icon which few will ever afford to own so why not make them anyway ?
