Hi there Newby Riggsy here.
My 2008 Mog has a 0-10 barg Oil pressure gauge.
This range seems extreme?
Anyway now that I have ran it in the hot weather water temp
is steady at 90dec C or so but on idle oil pressure going down to1barg?
My Mechanic says that’s still ok but I have noticed that when ignition on
The gauge does not come up to Zero reading so methinks it’s out of calibration?
Anyway to zero these Smiths gauges when engine not running? Or is it the sender?
Sorry for all the ??

Riggsy

What engine have you got. 1 bar or so on my Roaster would be a bit but not a lot low.

You're doing the same as me now John - it's in the subject line smile
Must admit I don't read mine, so long as it is reading, I'm reasonably happy - '93 1.8, but a Zetec.
Morgan gauges are best viewed as an indicator, rather than definitive measure... smile

Before you start fiddling with the gauge, I'd advise checking the oil pressure on a master oil pressure guage.

Totally normal on a Duratec, I have had the same issue on both my previous Duratec engined +4’s, both were tested as Arwyn suggests and both were fine and reading much higher than the MMC fitted gauge.

The previous owner of my current 4/4 (1.6 Sigma) was so concerned as the car had the same issue fitted an oil pressure sender unit from a different Ford unit and it now reads higher than it actually is..... go figure how that gives peace of mind ;-).

Treat the oil pressure gauge like the fuel gauge (with suspicion). It’s a guide only. Plus don’t forget very few tin tops have had oil pressure gauges for many years, MMC’s efforts to give us a gauge has resulted in a ‘nearest fit’ solution so rest easy, by all means confirm with an external gauge but t it will be fine I am sure.

My 4/4 with 1.8 Duratec has a low reading. I asked around and was reassured its a normal thing and gauge probably reads low. That was in 2011 and now 9 years later with 70,000 miles on the clock the engine behaves perfectly well and shows no issues.

I checked today. 0 bar with power on but engine off.
5 bar at 2000 rpm when cold and 2-3 bar at idle.
2-3 bar at 2000 rpm when hot. 1 bar at idle.

Thx people yes my Mechanic will check it with a test unit and if ok I will rest easier.
Suspect the issue is the zero calibration so may get the sender checked out too.
Why the hell Malvern fit a 0-10barg (150psig) gauge no idea, as makes lowish pressures look so bad!
But hey ho it’s a Mog!
If my Mechanic discovers anything interesting I will repost update.
Cheers Riggsy
