The time has arrived to replace my Original MMC outdoor cover for my M3W. When I bought this in 2014, it was pretty much the only game in town and it has always been fairly useless. It has never been remotely waterproof, in spite of various treatments with patent potions, guaranteed to make a string vest waterproof. The only point in its favour is that it is a good fit for the shape of the M3W. I have seen some other covers made of very thin waterproof material, which only fitted where they touched the bodywork. The M3W lives out of doors in the South of France from mid April to mid October most years. My house is at 2500 feet of altitude and is right on the edge of a cliff at the end of a long valley. When there is a Mistral blowing, even in summer the winds can reach 90KPH gusting to 110 or more, so a heavyweight cover with retaining straps is essential. We can also get extreme hail with hailstones as big as tennis balls, albeit thank goodness this bad is very rare, as the last occasion punched holes right though my tiled roof. Padding inside the cover is therefore another essential.

Anyone got any recommendations? Otherwise I might take my existing cover down to Monsieur Querol, about 25km away in Vidauban, who makes custom made covers for patio furniture and swimming pools. He could unstitch the existing cover and use the separate panels as templates to cut panels out for a new cover. He made a lovely job of fitting a new heavy duty zip to my tonneau cover and also made the winter cover for my oddly shaped swimming pool.

Wilson

Try carcover - www.carcover.co.uk
Although they make them for cars and bikes in Italy but supply all over the place- the one for my 4/4 works well. They custom fit them and although they may not have a pattern for M3W the owner of the company has a couple of Morgans - he may be sympathetic and might even see an opening in the market.
There are no straps on mine - maybe they could fit them - but mine is elasticated all round and even in strong gales doeas not come loose - it fits closely to the car and clings - think Spandex for cars. I am not on commission!

These folks have a three wheeler pattern and can make a cover from a variety of materials, although I am not sure if any of them will help with hailstones that can smash roof tiles: California car covers

Shipping to Europe might be expensive, but I can verify they are beautifully made covers and fit well.

Can they make it out of Nomex for the part that surrounds the engine?

....plus Nomex around the exhaust as my leg can currently testify to. I was buying fuel from an automated filling station last Thursday and the bank card which had been in my French wallet since last October was stuck in there. When I finally pulled it out, it flew through the air and landed near the front wheel of the Morgan. As I bent to pick it up, my bare lower leg touched the near red hot down pipe. Instantly I have a nasty 2 inch diameter deep burn on my leg. Luckily I still had the obligatory first aid kit in the car from doing a rally in the M3W last year in France and was able to put a burn dressing on right away, so at least it is clean and uninfected.

I have a Carcover cover for my Panamera and I regret I am not too impressed. Very thin and flimsy albeit a good fit. They are made in Asia to spec and they were unable to alter to put in a flap for the hybrid charging plug.

I am not expecting any cover to protect against tennis ball sized hailstones but against regular ones up to about 1/2" in diameter, which are relatively common.

How about an external Carcoon as opposed to a cover?

http://www.carscovers.co.uk have a template from making my indoor cover, they have a wide range of materials to choose from. They are a lot cheaper than MMC.

I have Carcover's most expensive material for the outside cover for my Panamera. It is quite waterproof but very thin and lightweight. When we have a Mistral, it flaps and balloons like mad and I have to put shock cords round it. I would like a considerably heavier material for the new cover for my M3W. The weight of the original MMC cover is just fine, if only it was waterproof, which even when new, it was not remotely. I have been trying for some years to get permission to build a car port but the local Mairie is not at all keen. Maybe I need to send the Mayor on a Caribbean holiday like the other developers did.
