That Peacock butterfly is lovely.

Yes we are lucky in that it is a bit further than say Southend so we don't get too many day trippers. The holiday homes & caravan parks are full,
Whilst this was the less popular end of the beach in Felixstowe terms it was busy.
I dread to think how Torbay is . I know one TM told me he couldn't even park in Budliegh Salterton.

A friend of ours lives in Budleigh with her young daughter and the parking seems to be far worse than Dartmouth, she visits us in the summer where the parking is limitless in the village and we visit her in the autumn when it quietens down a bit.

Had a trip down to the coast near Rye in Morgie on Thursday - the place was, understandably, packed, so took a look around Rye Harbour, then traversed up to Tenterden for a take-out tea for me & an ice-cream for Sally!

From the traffic in Salisbury yesterday it seems that life has returned 100% to normal, so now we must revert to the pre-lockdown estimates for journey times.
I parked Tarka in the shade, under a tree, because it was so hot.
I now have to remove all the sap from the car, it comes off with hot water, but I'm not impressed by my lack of thought.

Rule No1 when living in Devon (and it has applied for the last 30+ years.)

In August, do not head to the coast. swearo

We head inland with a picnic. Exmoor is one of our favourite favourite destinations and we can get there avoiding the vast majority of the traffic.

Rule 1 in Devon when you live on the coast is to head for Dartmoor on the sunny days as most of the visitors like to go to the beach. It certainly has got a lot busier during our 41 years down here and John will notice even more changes being a born and bred smile. Our three youngsters were all born and educated down here and comment every time how much busier it's getting.

Dartmoor is our favourite but there are some lovely places on Exmoor we like to visit, we hired a farmhouse for the whole family a couple of years ago and had a great week exploring everywhere with the youngsters.

Rule 1 in Paignton in the 70s with a CB200 was to head inland & work your way to Bigbury or anywhere on the South Hams with a quiet beach. So cross country via Berry Pomeroy to Totnes etc. Meeting your mates form Dittisham on his RD350 en route.

Now in Suffolk we just walk to the beach on the River Orwell at Trimley foreshore or park near Languard Fort as you saw from yesterdays post it is far quieter.

Summer Rule No 1 in Salisbury:
Friday afternoon and all weekend avoid the A36 at all costs, unless you enjoy spending 45 mins driving 4 miles.....

Summer Rule No 2 in the New Forest:
Friday afternoon and all weekend avoid Lyndhurst and all main roads.

With the masses staying home this summer it is going to be, err... busy at all Southern Tourist locations.
