I had thought that I' would replace my Mercedes A series with a Tesla 3. One of my friends has one (the extended range model) and absolutely loves it, and for me it ticks a lot of boxes. Like others though, I'm not that inspired by the interior fit and finish.

I'm now leaning more towards a PHEV Mercedes A class, which only came out after I had already been thinking about the Tesla; Reviews have shown that it's claimed range on electric-only of around 45 miles are reasonable; more than adequate for my typical daily running around. The petrol engine endows it with enough oomph to not be a bore on longer journeys, and no range anxiety. In terms of french company car tax, the difference for me would be a mere €35 per year. TBH, it's more compact size suits me better as the parking spaces at work are very tight. We have been delighted with our existing A class, which had been a brilliant little car, and I've managed to negotiate decent discounts on the last two cars from my local Benz dealer, whereas the Tesla dealer seemed quite intransigent on price.

By all account, the only downside compared to the non hybrid version is that the extra 150kg it carries makes the handling a bit more ponderous. I need to test drive one and see.

I dont think I would get on with a Tesla as everything is controlled from a touch screen. Seems the wrong way to go as it takes too much of your attention to find the function you need. A few knobs or buttons for quickly needed functions like volume, fan & demist is the way to go. Teslas supercharger network would not swing it as the nearest are 80 & 90 miles away. Teslas reliability as Jaguar/LandRover is poor.

It'll be very interesting to see what they do with the CX platform.

swmbotold me over lunch that she might consider a Morgan electric car. Well in truth she said do Morgan make one, I said not now, she said shame. Surely that is code if they make one why don't we buy one. flyingpig
And I have swmbo Snr s a witness, though I am not sure how reliable she will be.

'Er indoors said pretty much the same to me. I mentioned to her that the new Plus Four was getting rave reviews. Her response was "Pity there isn't an electric version". Which is pretty much permission to buy one when they come out I reckon...

You can now buy an electric Bugatti. Autocar report you can get a 75% scale Type 35 with 31 mile range & 42mph top speed for £27300. Perfect for those with a large estate with paved roads.

Must resist. I could buy that & keep the Roadster unlike the Plus Four. drive.
that really is a toy with a new range of 31 miles. I assume it is not road legal

Agree - I don't want a touch screen. Our Octavia has one and if means I have to listen to whatever music the car has as I don't feel comfortable changing it as you can't do it like feel in my previous car. Happy to have it for display but don't want to have to touch it for any reason. I saw a UK review of the new Octavia and the heater controls are now in the touch screen so a good reason to not upgrade in my opinion. I assume it is cheaper to implement at touch screen that have buttons for temperature etc. and that is a lot of the motivation for manufacturers to go the wrong way. Seems some judges agree with me it is not a good idea.
