I nave a nearly new 5 speed 3 wheeler. Paint is peeling off the exposed chassis member in the footwell. Anyone else had this problem? My dealer has registered a warranty claim and we await feedback from Morgan. I have until Friday week (14th) to decide whether to reject the car outright. Any advice out there? Can the paint be successfully remedied without dismantling the whole car?

Mine was kind of faded everywhere in the cockpit and it stayed that way for the last 3 years. Can you take some pictures?

I have a couple of photos but don’t seem to be able to post up from my iPad. Will try later from my computer.

Probably best a avoid putting many miles on while you decide if you are going to reject it. Paint on chassis components is not good. I had headlamp brackets replace & front wings repainted under warranty. The wing finish was better than from the factory. At 7 years old the wings have started to bubble on lips & bubbling round the light stalks & roll hoops.

They can rectify the chassis paint where it's visible but what about all the areas where it's hidden? If you plan to keep the car for the long haul, I would seriously consider rejecting the car, or maybe let them rebuild it on a new chassis. Otherwise you will forever be coming across flaky paint and be wishing you had dealt with it while you had the chance.

Sounds like the frame was not properly prepared/cleaned before the paint application. If that's the case, then the problem will likely occur all over.

But there is another possibility: is the paint flaking off to reveal bare metal or some sort of primer? Or is it flaking off to reveal more black paint? I.e. the scuffs on the footwell tube were resprayed before delivery?

Somewhat related perhaps, I just had the 'chrome' cowl on my '17 M3W replaced under warranty. It developed a case of pox over the entire surface, appearing as rust developing from underneath. Low and behold the replacement is non-magnetic, the old one was. Bad batch of metal and or faulty prep?

I tend to agree with others that what is hidden is a harbinger of bad things to come. I'd reject it too.

Feedback has now been received from Morgan. They have undertaken to make good the paint to my satisfaction even if this means totally dismantling the car to repaint it or re-building it on a new chassis. This has been promised in writing and as a bonus they have said use the car whilst the weather is nice and then they will do the remedial work in the autumn. I am happy with this arrangement and so at present do not envisage rejecting the car. So plus points to Morgan for their customer service.

Good for them - a very fair result.

One does feel for Mark Baldwin. Better build quality would save his department a lot of time and money.
