How easy is it to fit grease nipples to a 97 +8 instead of the remote type On the suspension and how many other greasing points are there ? I’ve found one on the drive shaft right at the back but I’m sure there’s more . I’ve just bought a new low profile trolley jack and I’m dying to use it .

If you mean the top of front suspension, there is an argument that says there is no point greasing from there as it won't travel and have any meaningful lubricating effect.
As to the others. Nipples either end of the prop. Lower end of front suspension to lubricate king pins ( the most important). Make sure the wheels are off the ground or jack up end of the damper blades. Some people fit a remote greasing kit. Questionable! No other grease nipples but grease the end of the damper blades chassis end. Also chain lube grease the leaf springs at the rear. Plus any squeak that might benefit from a bit of lubrication! There will be one or two!
.

On the prop shaft there are three grease points, one at the rear universal joint at the rear as you have found and then there is another on on the front prop UJ and another on the sliding spline where the prop shaft goes into the gearbox. The front two grease nipples are under the propellor shaft tunnel and sometime there will be no access underneath. I have drilled about a 25mm ( 1 inch ) hole from which i can access both front grease nipples. I have a small tin cover to stop any crud and stones entering. There are also one grease nipple ( if you have a Salisbury 7HA diff ) on either end of the axle tubes. I do not know whether they are fitted to the BTR axle.

No grease nipples on the BTR axle. The outer bearings are lubricated by the axle oil.

The most important grease points are the on the stub axle between the top and bottom bushes, as long as these are both kept well lubricated you won't go too far wrong. I do these at least every 1000 miles , and usually much sooner.

Some folk try to prise the damper blade up with a pry bar , or large screwdriver, and make sure that the underside is also coated with grease, this is much easier as a 2 man job.

Secondly there is the top bolt (on the top of the king pin), many of us have converted the one-shot oil lubrication to a 90 Deg grease nipple, just keep this one topped up occasionally.

Outside that, the prop shaft nipples are incredibly difficult to reach (good luck with going underneath, and make sure the car is on axle stands as well as your new trolley jack) .

1997 could have been the changeover year from Salisbury to BTR rear axle. If the latter then no grease nipples , if the former then just a couple of pumps into each one is sufficient.

As well as the greasing it is really good practice to look around the front suspension, the front of the engine etc while you are down greasing , this enables you to spot issues early on and put in the remedial maintenance before they become serious.

On the Salisbury axle there are small holes in the side not far from the grease nipple. On my 4/4 they were pointing forward and on the front side. Keep them clear. When you grease these nipples look for a small “worm” of grease coming out of those holes. That is enough grease. The holes are small, if I remember correctly about 1 to 2 mm max.
Have a look in Gomog site. They have details in there in the workshop section.

Is it possible to cut a hole in the gearbox cover for access to the front one on the +8? I wish I'd done this years ago on mine.

I have a 1997 Plus 8. Factory fitted access hole provided to grease the front nipples on the propshaft. However on mine, the nipple to grease the spline is ,typically, not easily accessible through the opening provided.

.Yes a bigger hole could be cut or access from underneath, or as in my case, use a Nielsen grease gun adaptor kit. That works.
