Just dropped the van off for an MOT and the woman in front was complaining that 'the orange light on the dashboard had come back on'.

She was worried that the car might be overheating but she didn't know where the temperature gauge was on her Zafira.

Now she was dressed in a nurses uniform (stop it!) so she is able to grasp basic complexities but is probably so disinterested in cars that she can't be bothered to look into the very basics as long as she is able to get her car to where she wanted to go and she will know where the petrol gauge is.

Now I think that at least 90% of men would know where the temperature gauge is but it would be an interesting social experiment to see how many women can point it out. So the mission (if you choose to accept it) is to ask the wife or female partner if they know where it is in the car (it would probably be too much of a stretch to ask them about the correct operating temperature im thinking)

Anyway, If you do ask them it might be prudent to be diplomatic in the way you go about it if you want to continue receiving hot dinners and late night cuddles.

Heather knows exactly where hers is on her GTI and where it should sit, she struggles with my Fiesta as is doesn't have one at all and it's a Titanium spec !

Janice knows how to find the temp gauge. She even pointed out to me that little triangle by the fuel light tells you which side the filler cap is.

Many years ago my then girlfriend and I drove up to Aberdeen in my Golf MkII 16v. She took over from the Scottish border so I went to sleep and as we were approaching Perth the car starts hopping and comes to a halt, safely thank god.

I ask her whats going on and she does not know, I work out we are out of petrol. I asked her is she had been watching the petrol gauge as I had warned her about. She said it was dead in the middle and had not moved since she took over. That was the water temp gauge of course. It was in the same location as the petrol gauge in her 106. Bum.

Just time to burn a little more petrol before dinner.

Is that a hint for you to get out and fill it up?

A friend of my wife recently went for a Covid test. On approach, the army officer asked her to lower the window just enough to pass the test kit in. Following several attempts, she found it impossible to stop the window part way, so he said, “So I can keep a safe distance, open the passenger side and I’ll drop it through.”This she did and as he walked away, he asked her to parp her horn when ready.
She then realised that she didn’t know where the horn was and was afraid to hit the centre of the steering wheel in case the air bag went off! She’s only had the car for 4 years!
