I currently have a black mohair hood cover and tonneau cover, however, having recently acquired a body coloured spare wheel and luggage covers, I would like to change the colour of the hood cover.

Does anyone have any experience of dying mohair or at least changing the colour one way or the other? If so what are the downsides and what is the best way of doing it?

I re-coloured the faded mohair roof on my TVR back to black (very Amy Winehouse, I know) using Renovo products. It was easy to do, and the result was pretty good. I'm not sure how easy it would be to go from black to another colour.

Might be worth asking Shaun at Allon Whites as he is a trim expert of the highest order.

Colin agreed. I expect changing will not be easy but light to dark might be possible.

Shaun does a nice line in bespoke hood covers Paul, not massively expensive & he could match your newly acquired colour

I suspect you would have to bleach the black before dying a colour, which would probably destroy the fibre integrity

I swapped my red hood for a black hood. As I also have the red accessories, tonneau, side screen bag and hood cover. I contacted these people and asked if their black die would work to change the colour from red to black and they said no so didn’t take it any further

That's funny Roger, I actually want to go from black to dark red! Such is life.

Funnily enough Jon, that was my next course of action if dyeing was a non-starter. But thanks for the recommendation.

Paul red is so last year….. smile

I don’t know if any of the bits will be the same or interchangeable between our cars. I don’t think mine have ever been used if interested.

It would certainly be a good excuse to pop over to your place and try it out, Somerset isn't so big it would take too long and one always needs a good excuse for a drive (in the dry preferably). I live just outside Taunton btw.

Do you want to PM me with your address and phone no. and we can have a chat?

I think you will find it is a bit like the bonnets. The various studs for the hood cover and tonneau cover will always be in a slightly different place. The idea of using jigs and templates to make things the same is not in the Morgan philosophy.
