Scotland is over represented in our democratic institutions and Scottish politicians have held some of the most influential positions in UK government. It's a mystery therefore why they would want to rejoin the EU where they would be bit-part actors in an undemocratic 'union'. The SNP policies are to fight for independence from the UK and then give it up again to join the EU. The reality would be economic self harm and Spain and Belgium vetoing their joining the EU.

We would all like to be rid of the overbearing parasites which inhabit Westminster. No argument there.

But as above.....^^^ The SNP wanting to abandon the Union and join the EU doesn't make much sense, unless it's simply fear of being a tiny country in a big world, and looking for handouts from somewhere else.

Yorkshire should bid for independence. I believe this county has a bigger population and a larger economy than Scotland, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

"I think of Scotland as a whining, ungrateful and stroppy teenager"

Ok Boomer!! rofl

And, as such, 'Scotland' won't give a toss what you think Dad smile

My heart sinks a little whenever this topic appears on any forum .... it always seems a cue for the most boorish and ill informed from either side to vent their opinions.

Sad that devolution should have morphed into a vehicle of discord rather than one of more 'grass-roots' governance to better fit local differences and needs.

But there you go, nature of the political animal I suppose.

This is the right approach to become best friends, isn't it? 😈
So you are happy should they leave the UK? Some problems less?

I do not understand British politics

And that is precisely the patronising attitude that has driven the push towards independence.
I have refrained from stooping to such a low level in this reply, however tempting it may be.
I suggest that this thread be moved to the soapbox rapidly, if not deleted completely.

Indeed, and with current polling 53% in favour, there's a clear demonstration of the will of the people being for independence, so it shouldn't be denied. smile

As to the debt, a quick google suggests a range of options. I'm sure they'll sort it all out in the Withdrawal Agreement.

The last time the issue came up, I firmly wanted Scotland to remain part of the union. Now, if they really want to try and make a go of it, I wish them good luck. I'm sure the EU will try and help, they have a lot of friends there.

I don't think the EU can afford to support another lame duck.
