I love these cars.
About 12 years ago I saw one for sale. A resto project. I phoned the seller but his answers about the condition were very non desirable. It was a classic full resto with a lot of rust/sized brakes, questions about the electrics and engine. He was adamant he wanted £5k with no chance of a drop. Declined it.
I didn’t have one on my desirable cars list. A big omission.

They were a rusty car. I chased the rust around. Very expensive to repair, all the wing joints etc. Were leaded in.
Mine was the es estate one. Fabulous car to drive. 0-60 in ten seconds.....that was quick in 1973. Good reliable fuel injection. Very comfortable tourer.
Fair amount of body roll but it handled really well once it had rolled as far as it was going to. I once had that big back window explode in the middle of London. That was scary.

That is seriously nice, perhaps a lower spec with road engine?

I agree with Dave W that the wagon version looks nice and interesting.

Here is a guy who bought a Mazda MX5/Miata donor with the idea of putting a MGB body on it. The final result was he put a Volvo 1800 wagon body on it and a V8 engine in it. 23 pages of discussion in case you are interested.

What a coincidence, I was just watching an episode of Chasing Classics yesterday when Wayne had a Taga conversion on a 1800 ES taking it to the 24 hours of Lemonds. It's well worth a look as the car is truly awful !!

Here for a good time not a long time!!

A few years ago Volvo showed a concept at the car show. Reintroduced the 1800es.
I tried to order one. It never happened. I would have happily paid well over the odds to own one

Wow that's matured very nicely, like it - very much.

Yes, one of the best developments of a design seen for many years. In my opinion, the curved windscreen with the resultant more vertical pillars is one of the keys. I know that safety drives very thick, forward leaning pillars on other cars these days but it is to the detriment of elegance as well as driver visibility.
