I know my 1980 4/4 was originally supplied with a Ford 1500 crossflow engine with 4-speed gearbox. When I purchased the car the engine had been replaced with a 2 litre Fiat Twin Cam with 5-speed box. On the V5 Registration document the engine number is stated as F1/AT/126199XXX/GTI, however on closer inspection I have discovered a stamping on the engine block which is 132 C2 000 0793XXX, which is a Fiat Argenta engine number. Is the former number that of the original Ford? Does anyone have a late '70's or early '80's Ford engine number, and what format does it take?

Many thanks.

The V5 engine number of my 1980 4/4 is in the format: 0D15-Annnn. It is a 1600 crossflow.

The crossflow engine in my 1971 4/4 doesn't have an engine number.

Theres a number on the original invoice, the guarantee card and the logbook but nowhere on the engine.

Car was bought new by my Dad so it's the original engine

Pushing my memory here on the no engine numbers scenario Arwyn..... I once had a 20ft cabin cruiser with a Ford 1500 (?) engine, resplendent in Ford blue, it too had no numbers on the raised plynth designed to carry them, and no sign that it ever had numbers, given I very looked carefully. It did have a fancy alloy rocker cover proclaiming "Mangolitsi modified", which may have related more to the total loss water circulation system that exited via the exhaust....?

As for recording engine numbers other than in the log book, on my 1985/6 +8, they are also stamped elsewhere..as may be the norm for Morgans...?

There may be a 4 digit number stamped on the inside of the bonnet, along the middle where it hinges. If so, this is the last 4 digits of the original engine number.

Yes, the 1500 is much earlier, pre-X-flo.
