On my Brooklands I need a GPS speedo as the factory fit one undereads by 10% and is not inl line of site.
I started powering from the cigarette lighter but of course that is always on , so one day I will drain the battery.
I discovered the radio USB port for a USB stick is actually powered up with the ignition and live even if the USB port is not selected.
So a simple result.

If you want a dedicated feed John then a 12 volt fed USB socket could be hooked into the ignition switched light green/white wire on the radio feed loom. This will be available whether radio fitted or not, and also feeds the horns via a 10 amp fuse.

Me too. I bought a radio power cable adaptor off ebay which enabled me to plug into the radio wiring and then connect a USB socket without modifying the car wiring in any way.

Are you wanting a GPS unit to use as a speedometer or a specific GPS Speedo?

You could power a gps unit by piggybacking a fuse so you would have dedicated power to it. Just select a circuit that is either on with the ignition or always on and put the fuse in place.
