I just thought I would share something that happened in case someone can also benefit from the saving!

I have the multicar with Admiral and had shopped around a bit over the years as they all try and scam you one way or another. Renewal comes through.

Me and the good lady.
20 years NCB, no fines (currently)
Limited mileage etc etc.

Last Year £1300
Renewal Quote £ 1380 comes through a few weeks back.

I got a few quotes and most come out a bit cheaper as usual.

I let it expire and following morning I phone them and ask if that is the best they can do. Renewals person tells me he cannot help me as it is technically expired and now new business.
I get transferred and the new business person so he pulls up my file (same quote/policy number) and has all the same details, puts it into computer.

As a new customer my discount allows the price to be reduced and it will only be £984.00

Lost for words. Bite his hand off and jobs a good 'un. They just took £400 out of their own pocket? confused

As long as you never drive them during the overnight lapse and don't intend to have them stolen or set light to it would seem quite a good saving.

The worlds gone mad.

Just time to burn a little more petrol before dinner.

Yep, the world's going mad as we watch

That's super cheap for all that value of metalwork, I assume it's because you live in a castle, with a moat, & have your own armed guards...still grin2

Yeah that's a very good discount,
I always shop about just before insurance is due and phone my insurance company and ask them what they can do or I'm off and every year I save money, I have 8 cars to insure.
But does admiral give you a guarantee valuation on your Morgans?

That is obscene.
I look forward to that news item about insurance renewal and not paying more than a new customer.
Will it actually happen...I am not holding my breath. I will be long dead if I do!

My daughter's car is with Admiral. The plus side is that their call centre is very helpful and responsive but I do have to haggle with them every year. I got her last renewal reduced from £710 to £550.

I have my Morgan and tin-top with Heritage, no such nonsense with them.

My son bought a second-hand motorbike on Saturday, he insured it online with Adrian Flux before riding it away. He got a call from them on Monday because their checks had revealed a non-fault, no-claim accident in 2017 that he hadn't declared. He had to pay them an extra £43 - that was a premium increase of £8 plus their policy change admin fee of £35! I advised him to cancel it altogether and call someone else (the bike broke down on Sunday anyway!!)

I had something similar this year. - despite my insurance being a renewal and I was very clear on my motoring history when I took out my policy, my insurance company informed me that their check had revealed my bike accident in 2015. I was going to dig out the paperwork and have a rant, but then they said my renewal had been reduced by £40! However as the admin charge to add the accident was £35 they called it quits.....

On another insurance note, I have my Mog insured with Footman James. They advertise a classic/tin top policy where I could add my current car to the Mog policy. I was rubbing my hands - my Corsa is only worth £500 and a very low insurance group (I currently pay about £220 a year) so was expecting there to be little or no change to my Mog policy. I was a little surprised when they asked for an additional £300...... Obviously I didn't take them up on the offer.

Moons ago, i removed the 2.25 petrol engine from my S2A Land Rover, and stuck in a V8 from a disco. I rang the insurance company and informed them of the new engine, the massive increase in BHP and that I had made no upgrades to the braking system. There was a lot of 'intakes of breath' and a pointed 'there is going to be an increase in premium'. They went away for an age, but came back and informed me that the engine swap had increased my classic policy premium from £88 a year, to £96 smile smile

My LANCASTER EXPERIENCE TODAY: Insurance that is.

For info only: My Morgan Insurance is due renewal. Having been with Heritage for years I thought I would benchmark to see if it was worth switching.
Looked in Miscellany and selected Lancaster for new quote. It went like this:

Agent: 15-20 minutes of usual questions. Personal details, car details/value, convictions ,cover wanted , excess wanted, limited mileage. etc. (all exactly same details as current insurer )
Agent: Please hold while I contact our specialist insurance underwriter to get you a competitive quote..
Agent: Literally 10 mins later. Is it factory made or kit car? swmbo
Me: Factory made.
Agent: 10mins later We have a specialist insurer and the quote is...... . The Lancaster quote was 32% more expensive ie + £80. Excess double from £150 to £300.
Me: Dont forget MSCC discount
Agent: That quote includes MSCC discount. swmbo swmbo

I made the observation to the agent that Lancaster were not even close to being competitive which was disappointing bearing in mind their Miscellany advertising.
Their response was we might be able to find a bit more discount but we couldn't get close to your existing quote.

Offered for interest only a wasted 40 mins of life that I can ill afford at my age!
